Introducing 1st foods and whole milk

Over a month ago, I had to run my now 3 1/2 month old to the E.R. and found out that his system was literally flooded from his grandma feeding him a lot of water. After that, he began throwing up all the time and almost 3/4 of the furmula. I called the doctor and he said put him on Pedialyte. We started giving him about 4 ounces in a 24 hour period, yet he still throws up. I have a friend with twins (1 week younger than my son) that had the same problem. She went to the doctor and she was tld it would be ok to put them on whole milk and baby foods. Now she ha no more problems. Would it be safe for me to do the same before I get him checked out by a doctor?

whole milk is hard on a babys tummy! you should give her cows milk till 9 months of age unless YOUR doctor told you otherwise. If u give her cows milk you could make more sick. and solids shouldnt be fed till usually 5 or 6 months of age unless your doctor says its ok.

but sarah's right, u can't give him whole milk yet, it's wayyyy too early!!!

He's been this way for over a month. I will talk to my doctor to see what he says. Thanks for the help.

I would check with your doctor first. Whole milk is usually not recommended until age 1 yrs, so I would not do that unless doctor said to start that. Whole milk is harder on their tummies than formula, so I am not sure if that would help the problem. I would think it would make things worse. Even for food I would still talk to your doctor first. Most doctors will say you can start baby cereal between 4-6 months, so I can see your doc. giving the ok for baby cereal. But I would not do ANYTHING without TALKING with my doctor FIRST. The whole milk thing at 3 months scares me....not a thing I would do (maybe even if doc. said ok)....too many things in whole milk for those little tummies to digest. There might be another problem going on with your child too that a doctor really needs to do some testing and looking at. Adding more things to his diet might create more problems and either delay the help he needs or make the issue worse than what it currently is.

i would get the ok from the doctor first. or do u have a service that u can call and speak with a nurse?? we have like a health-info hotline, maybe you could search for one and ask them?? if it's only been 24 hours, maybe he just needs more time to let his body return to normal? and yeah they don't need water until they start eating solids at 6 months!
