how do i introduce solids to my 4 month old? am i supposed to introduce him to rice cereal, and then other baby foods like fruits and veggies?
i went on gerber, and they have 7 different fruits and veggies, in a week.
im a single mom, and have no clue on what to do..please help

You can start on rice cereal, but it is not necessary. Rice cereal, bananas, applesauce, and some other starter foods are actually constipating foods! You can start him on green veggies and/or "P" fruits (fruits starting w/the letter P) which are non constipating foods. Instead of rice cereal you can start him on an oats or barley unless you want to give the rice cereal a try first.
If you do start with cereal make it soupy until he gets the hang of it. I made it soupy for quiet a while as I started my son on rice cereal at about a month old due to his reflux and the pediatrician dismissing it.
Anyways, I would start w/veggies... some babies will refuse veggies if they are introduced to fruits first due to the taste difference. You can start a new fruit or veggie every 3 days.
And remember baby must still drink formula or breast milk before or after each feeding of cereal and/or purees! That is their main source of nutrition.

I introduced cereal and baby food all at the same time. For breakfast she would get cereal and a fruit then lunch was a veggie and a fruit and cereal and then for dinner it was cereal fruit and a veggie. Just start pout with like a table spoon at first to see if they are going to eat it.

The best way I have found to start solid food is with rice cereal for 3 or 4 days. One feeding a day, about 2-3 tablespoons. The whole point is to teach them to eat not to get them full. Babies don't need the solids at this time for nutrition. Make sure you feed the baby the SAME food for 3 or 4 days so you can check for allergies! Let your dr know if the baby has a rash or something isn't right. I did veggies first because they aren't as sweet as fruits and once some babies taste the sweet fruit they don't want the veggies. I hope this helps.

i started my daughter on carrots. she never liked the rice cereal. now she will eat the oatmeal as long as i use water instead of formula and i have to add a fruit with it. i dont think it really matters. just give him whatever you can get him to eat. thats what i did.

I found the hienz cereals worked well with my kids Just start out with a little bit of cereal then work on giving your little one a bit more every few days . Just stick with the rice cereal then introduce him to the other cereals. Youll find that he will start like the texture and the likeness of each one youll find that he wont want to stop once he starts

my lil girl is 19 wks old and i started her on food 2 wks ago, i started with sunshine orange cereal and she loves it.. i also got creamy porridge but i think its not as tasty as she's not too fond of it.. once they open there mouth when you have the spoon near they should be ready.. im hoping to give her her first dinner xmas day.. best a luck :)

I started both my daughters on solids when they were around 5 months. I would get a baby food recipe book, but they have good advice about what and how to feed them. I just made sure to give lots of veggies and not just sweet tasting foods. You want to give as wide a variety of foods as possible and try not to get stuck in a routine of the same foods every week, although in the beginning you want to introduce one new food every three days. My older daughter is 4 and eats everything! Even if they seem not to like it at first, it's more the fact that eating is so new, then that they don't like the food. It takes at least 10 times of a baby or toddler eating a food before you can definitively say they dont like the taste.

My Dr told me to go through all the cereals first starting with rice (it is the easy for them to digest and has least chance of an alergy) and ending with wheat. Do each one for at least one week to make sure there are no alergies. After the cereals to do green veggies, then orange ones (babies tend to like sweet things best so do the green veggies before the sweet ones in oder to get them to eat them) . Then fruit and meat last since it's the hardest to digest. Most important thing is when you add something new do so 1 at a time and wait 1-2 weeks before adding something new again. That way if they have a reaction you will know that it is the new food item.

My son is 4 months old and going to start his second cereal. I started with rice and made very soupy and used a spoon to feed him. I don't measure the stuff out so each time it's a bit different to help him with different textures. He loves to eat. I just feed him at night right now to help him and me sleep better.

I started with a really watery rice cereal, but my daughter didn't care for it. I then gave her some well mashed banana and she loved it. I would first mash it with a fork and then mash it more in my finger before feeding it to her. I just gave tastes of food to my daughter up until she was about 5 months old. I than gave her steamed and pureed veggies and some fruits. My daughter really liked the gerber blueberry and apple (I think the second fruit was apple) and the beech nut mango.

Do not rush with solids especially if you're breastfeeding. It's very hard to keep the vitamins and nutrition ballance when giving

is your 4 month old showing signs of being ready for solids like watching you eat and stuff? you start with one thing a week like rice cereal for dinner or breakfast and then next week mashed pumpkin or sweet potato and then the next week mashed apples until they get the hang of it and then you can do normal meals.

just do what you feel is right, if baby wants it he will open his mouth up like a little bird. haha. my son was fussy though and never went big on rice farex so we started on fruit and veg.

I started solids when my boy was about 4 and a half months months, but I did try a couple times before but he wasnt quite ready. I first started with some rice cereal, then some fruit and vege's, apples, bananas, pears, carrot, pumpkin. You'll know if your baby isnt ready for solids, they wont open their mouth for the spoon!
