IS it best to buy fresh veggies and puree them vs the all organic baby food in glass jars?

I tried to give my son home made potato, carrot and broccoli and after tasting it he would not open his mouth and shuved the spoon away when I tried to bring it up to his mouth! I will try again in a weeks time or so, but I have heard from some mothers that they have trouble giving the homemade stuff to their children (even if the concistency is right).. but I will keep trying, in the mean time I will also try the ready made stuff to see if that works.. Good luck to everone regardless what you choose! :)

Thank you all for your wise words! I have recently tasted the jarred food and I found it to be pretty tasteless!During this precious time of introducing my baby to a new and exciting step in his life, I think I will go the 'making it myself' route! This way, I can offer healthy food that tastes yummy! Again, thank you all for your time in answering my post!!
Cheers,
Rebekah

I make my own because it is cheaper, but the organic baby foods that are made without salt are okay too. They are just veggies and water. I use breastmilk instead of water. I feel like it's better for him that way. It may not actually matter, but I feel better about it.

i think it depends on how much time you have and personal preferences. my friend used to make her own baby food on daily basis (veggies & cereal & then later meats & fruit). she was cooking dinner every night, so she had all the necessities at hand and all it took was an extra pot & a hand blender (btw, she didn't give baby cereals, but bought different grains & boiled + pureed them as well with some veggies/fruits. she didn't freeze hers because she figured she'd be cooking the next day anyway. if it's easier for you to do it every few days/once a week & freeze it, then by all means do it. jar food is a great option for when you're going on a trip somewhere or to a restaurant or to visit friends/family member where homemade isn't available. but what you make yourself will give you the knowledge of exactly what is in the food and what condition it was in before it was cooked & pureed. good luck!

I give home made pureed food to my son. Its easy and I like making it. If you look on the jars for even the organic foods there is still salt added to the food to preserve it. I am a stay at home mom and so Im able to make him his food, plus it only takes about a half of an hour a week to do. The choice is really yours, babies do fine on either. Good luck!

Hi Rebekah, I feed my son both. When we're at home, I give him the home made pureed food, but when we go out, he has jar food. As long as he poops and wees regularly and obviously happy and healthy, there's no reason not to try and have both. xo

If you can find Happy Baby brand frozen baby food, that tastes a lot better than the jarred stuff, which tastes like canned veggies to me. (yuck) And it's quick and organic and easy. That's what I give to our son in a pinch.

I agree. I would taste it and see what you think of it before you give it to your baby. I am starting now, and I plan to boil and pure it myself in bigger batches and freeze it. I have had friends who did that saying that they feel better for knowing exactly what they are giving their children and it is also cheaper... we´ll see if I keep it up, but my intentions are to go that way! :)

I would try tasting the jarred food yourself... in my experience it doesn't taste very good (even the organic stuff)! Pureeing food is easy and frugal (use ice cube trays and freeze the extra) and you can also go with finger foods (the baby led weaning approach) if you feel comfortable with that.
