Hi, well i just a have a question, just in general i guess.

I went to a pregnancy group, and people came in with their 'new' babies, and one girl said to me.. she said.. "ohh when the baby came out, i told the midwife not to give it to me until it was cleanfrom all that goo and stuff"..

Im sorry, but seriously... i cannot be the only person in this world who hugged, kissed and loved their 'gooey' baby?

With my second child I cut the umbilical cord and picked him up immediately after. It was awesome and not gross at all!

I didn't kiss her, but I did hug and love her. I couldn't get her close enough to kiss her while she was "gooey".

I was watching as the Doctor pulled my son out with forceps and my husband cut the cord and the nurse asked me while he was doing that if I wanted to hold him right away, and up until that point I thought I did but he just looked soo icky (he's my first and I use to be a really clean freak in some aspects, that's totally changed now!!!) that I asked her just to clean him up a bit, within 2 minutes I had him back and fell in love right away!! :)

When my little one was born she was put straight onto my chest...I have never felt so in love with anything in my life regardless whether she was 'gooey' or not.

I hugged my gooey baby too, but some people are different. It doesn't mean that she loves her baby any less than you loves yours.

The minute my kids popped out they were placed on my chest until the umbilical cords were cut. It's that first moment gooey or not you realize you love them unconditionally.

I got to hold Wil as soon as he was born, before cord was cut. I wante him staright away too. Wil didnt get bathed for 24hrs. He didnt have much on him tho either but it wouldnt have worried me xx

I had my first put on my chest immediately and I held him before he was cleaned. My second I didn't get the chance, he was covered in meconium and had the cord wrapped tightly around his neck so he was rushed over to the bed to get it off of him and rubbed down to start him to crying since he was quiet and they wanted to make sure he was okay.

I would have loved to held him before he was cleaned, and technically before both were bathed I had them both in my arms. I think its kinda strange to feel that it is "icky" after what you just went through to give birth. Don't get it myself.

It was the greatest feeling in the world holding my "gooey" baby as soon as she came out and having that skin to skin contact!! I knew I wanted to do that way before she was born when I could feel her moving around inside me! And I wouldn't have changed that moment for the world!! And when I have more children I'll do the same thing all over again and love and kiss and hold my "gooey" baby skin to skin!!

I desperately wanted to hold my son right after birth. It didn't work out that way because he took a little too long coming out so they needed to check him out first and I had been on drugs & awake so long that they didn't want to give him to me for fear I would drop him!! I insisted though and finally 20mins later they gave him to me & my hubby stood watch.

Quoting Lisa:

I birthed my baby- it was my hands that first touched her, and she was lifted to the air and to my chest by me. No one else. After carrying her in my womb for nearly ten months why in the world would I allow someone else to take her from my body and touch her skin before me?

No- up to my breast my gooey stunningly gorgeous daughter came.

Same with me :)

Although my daughter was born in water, so she wasn't too gooy lol.

Yay for waterbabies!  Mine wasn't too gooey either, but still.

Honestly I would have loved the opportunity... I was given a emergency c-section with my first and had another with my 2nd. I think given the chance I would have loved to kiss them all over. But maybe some moms just don't like all the goo and blood.

I really wish I had had the chance to hold my baby straight away for skin to skin contact. I had an emergency C-section and didn't get to hold him after he'd been cleaned, wrapped up and everything. I'm still getting teary when I think about him being held first by doctors and nurses and pricked and poked before he got to cuddle his mummy. It certainly didn't affect our bonding, I love him more than life itself and would do anything for him. He's very attached to me as well.

I took both my kids right after they were born. I hugged and kisses them both, mess and all. I can understand if this is the first baby she may think she won't want to hold the baby until he/she is cleaned. But I'm sure that will change as soon the the option to hold him or her comes up.

I WISH I had that moment with my son, but I had an emergency c-section and didn't really meet him until I came out of recovery three hours later. (I kissed him on his forehead after they cleaned him up, while stitching me back up, but i hardly remember that b/c I was so out of it on meds) I really wanted to have that moment though; to have the doctor lay him on me and be able to hold him right away. What I wouldn't give to have had that gooey moment with my Noah. But that's okay, because I like to think they had to pluck him out of me b/c he was so comfy inside his mommy, he didn't want to leave his first home! lol

I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant holding my son when he first come out because of all the "goo" as Im not good with blood and mucusy kind of stuff(before I had him) but then when I had him I didnt see that at all, all I saw was this life I created and it didnt matter!!

I would have held her, "goo" and all if not for my emergency C-section. As soon as my husband got to hold her, he held her next to my face so I could say hello to my little girl.

Doesn't bother me at all! But I didn't get to experience that with my child when she was born. She had her first stool while in utero so she needed to be checked out as soon as she was born. So by the time I got her she was all clean.
