Is it gross to you, or love?

Hi, well i just a have a question, just in general i guess.

I went to a pregnancy group, and people came in with their 'new' babies, and one girl said to me.. she said.. "ohh when the baby came out, i told the midwife not to give it to me until it was cleanfrom all that goo and stuff"..

Im sorry, but seriously... i cannot be the only person in this world who hugged, kissed and loved their 'gooey' baby?

I wish I had got to. But I had an emergancy c-section so she was given straight to the midwife to see if she was ok and to have her APGAR done by the time she was given to my hubby she was pretty clean. (I didn't get her till i was in recovery and even then my arms were still numb and she was just placed in the cradle of my arm on the bed next to me)

That person sounds immature. I couldn't wait to have my baby in my arms, covered in muck or not.

I did! I held my son seconds after he was born still "gooey" lol I kissed and cuddled him they laid him on my chest so I could help wipe him off and i got to nurse him :)

my hubby snuggled and kissed him before he was cleaned too

Quoting Lisa:

I birthed my baby- it was my hands that first touched her, and she was lifted to the air and to my chest by me. No one else. After carrying her in my womb for nearly ten months why in the world would I allow someone else to take her from my body and touch her skin before me?

No- up to my breast my gooey stunningly gorgeous daughter came.

Same with me :)

Although my daughter was born in water, so she wasn't too gooy lol.

No you're not!! My son had his head covered with goo and my own blood and it just felt so precious caressing his little sticky hair! Coming out they're all so warm and smell so good! It is such a beautiful precious moment! And if she thinks THAT is gross, what will she do with dirty diapers, vomit and baby food all over the place? LOL

As soon as Logan was born they put him on my chest and I held him.

My daughter layed on my stomach while I cut her cord. Immediately afterward I held her against my chest, naked. I kissed her head over and over, she peed on me, I nursed her, all before she was wiped clean and I hardly noticed, although I do recall wiping my lips off with her blanket at one point lol. When my sister gave birth to her son, she had such a strong epidural the baby had actually come out already in the bed under the blankets! He still had his bag of water around him so when she got him he was literally dripping wet! I cut his cord she loved him up never minding the goo! It's natural, but I understand women who think it's gross. Although I do believe that once in that situation, if given their child two things will happen: 1) they won't notice the goo either and be in awe like any new mommy 2) they will realize that while there is a lot of goo, there's not nearly as much as in the movies!

To be honest, I found it a bit gross. I had to be stitched up so they took my baby away to weigh her and they wiped her off a bit before I could hold her. I didn't want anything to delay me holding her for the first time, but I do remember thinking 'ew, she's still got a little bit of goo on her'. It doesn't mean that I love her any less though. :)

I totally did. Course I didn't have much of a choice the Doctor just threw her on my chest before I knew it. But it doesn't matter what she was covered in. I finally got to see the beautiful human being I had created.

I would have, but due tp vacuum birth they needed to check him right away. His hair was still all gooey though. I don't think it's gross at all.

Not gross at all. I held and kissed both my babies straight away and I wouldn't have done it any differently. In fact my son started feeding so well instantly, I was stuck there for almost an hour while he feed. Daddy cut his cord and they stitched me up (3rd degree tear!) while he was feeding!! We went home straight after he stopped feeding so he didn't even get a bath till the next day!.He was perfect goo, dry blood and all!

I really wish i could of held my 3 sons when they immediatly came out but i had csections with all 3. The dr did hold up my 3rd son for me though so i could at least see him before they cleaned him up and he was beautiful. I do not think its gross to hold your child immediatly after they are born. Its part of having children. You love them no matter what and its all part of the joy and happiness

When my mother found out that the midwives hand the baby to you straight away, she thought it was disgusting, i think it is all to do with your perception, chances are, if they had given this woman the baby before she thought about it, it wouldn't have bothered her, because, and lets be frank, there are far more disgusting things that babies do, and i bet that doesn't faze her.

I actually took my son off my mum, (the nurses had needed her to hold him so that they could get his breathing started due to having the cord twisted around his body) after his dad had cut the cord, and he was half wrapped in a towel, but i pulled that off! he was covered in all that gooey gross stuff, an i didnt even care that he pooed meconium all over my stomach after he was born, all i cared about was holding him

Baby was plonked on me the minute she popped out, but i couldn't have waited for her to get cleaned, i was dying to meet her, and the goo, and the smell, one of it mattered one iota!

My daughter was placed on my belly right after she came out. My hubby cut the cord. I didnt kiss her but not because I was grossed out. I did hold her close. I was in shock of what just happened lol. I wanted to breastfeed so the midwife said this really helps, the skin to skin contact. It was the most profound moment of my life!

We had a really good experience when our son was born, our dr got my husband to help (he basically delivered our son!), and then Joshy was put right onto my chest. We both kisses him, it wasn't until he was taken away clean and wraped that it even occured to me that he was gross and gooey before. Then again I was given some of that gas, and my mind was not where is normally is.

i never got a choice she was ventrous vaccumed out then put on the table to have her airways cleaned. and then they just gave her to me once she was weighd, messured and cleaned. but i wouldnt have minded if she was given to me all gooy, its all a big part of bonding with your child. although ive gotta say she wasnt really gooy at all when she came out. i was suprised how clean she was when she poped out...i was also suprised at how big a placenta is...that thing was huge lol

I held my daughter the moment she was out of me! She was gooey and covered in blood but she was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen! I'm expecting a little boy and he will, just like his big sister, come to me the minute he is birthed. I cannot wait to hold him for the first time! There's nothing like that first experience with your child. I'm appaled that someone didn't want to hold their child gooey. Childbirth isn't the only "messy" experience we have with our children. How is she going to handle poopy diapers? eating pureed solids? playing in mud? vomit?

I was so stunned, and in awe that i didnt care, and that first cuddle..(instantly or a few minutes later) is the most amazing feeling in the world. Im glad that all mothers in the world know that same feeling. =]
