My daughter is 9 months old and going through the formula. She also is still waking up every 3 hours at night to eat.Not only is it expensive its not keeping her full.Everyone including my mother tells me its ok to give her whole milk.

She said she gave it to me and my sisters at 6 months and all my friends say its ok...But the Dr says "NO" its dangerous. So I dont know what to do.Unfortunatley I wasnt blessed enough to breastfeed or I wouldnt be in this situation : (

No, it is not ok to give her whole milk. Formula has all the nutrients the baby needs, whole milk does not. Whole milk is introduced only after the baby has started getting all of her nutrients from other foods. I'd check into WIC, however not everyone can get it, there are income requirements. I made the switch to store brand. Store brand is cheaper in price however it is still regulated by the FDA so therefore it as all of the same nutrients, baby formula is strictly monitored by the FDA. I used the Walmart brand, it took me trying the different types (soy, milk based, gentle . . .) to find something that worked but when I did, it saved me A LOT. Parent's Choice is half the price of the name brands. Look into it, your baby has to have formula still.

I wouldn't do it before 1 years old. Then you have to start small, can't just give a glass of milk. They have to have a little bit of formula and milk and then work the way to a whole bottle. Do you not get WIC? WIC is awesome. You don't have to pay for the formula and any mother can get it. As long as the kid is 5 and under.

here is why you shouldnt give your baby milk before the first year.

"""Cow's milk is not recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics for children under 1 year old. Infants fed whole cow's milk don't get enough vitamin Evitamin E, ironiron, and essential fatty acids. They also get too much proteinprotein, sodium, and potassium. These levels may be too high for the infant's system to handle. Also, whole cow's milk protein and fat are more difficult for an infant to digest and absorb."""

The information we are given varies greatly from generation to generation and although the people who are giving you advice are well-meaning and obviously love you and your daughter, they are not members of the American academy of pediatrics or Doctors. you should also not thin the formula unless you are told to by your doctor. follow the directions on the package of formula. good luck, only three mos to go!!
