yes Candace is right... my dr said the same thing... my sone was not even a month old and had this prob... the juice worked... i have tryed karo syrup but be careful if u use to much expect an explosion and if not enough it wont help your baby... sarah is also right...you might want to think about changing the formula to somthing that better fits his body... maybe a soy based formula?... good luck

add a tsp to 2 ounces of formula and my to always went within 20 minutes. also as long as he is 2months or older you can get baby prunes stage 1 food and give a few spoonfuls that works too

When my little one was around two months and suffered from constipation the pediatrician told me to give him an ounce of Gerber's Apple Prune Juice a day and it worked. Six months later I still do that when needed but he can have more than an ounce now!

When my son was only a few days old he did not poop for 5 days. The ped. told me to use the karo syrup method. Not in the formula though. Mix with water or pedialite. I think it was 1 tb. to 2 oz. If you add it to the formula they will expect that sweetness. Call your ped. first though. And I really don't think it worked. It all came out in time and things regulated on there own. We tried the bicycling legs, the thermometer...which only worked once. People have said use baby suppositories. The prune juice approach is the same concept...but personally...I think it depends on the age of your baby....again call the ped. they will tell you what the best approach would be, if necessary.

I wouldn't. If it is the formula that is causing the constipation then change the formula. If he is on vitamins then those could be causing the constipation... formula fed babies do not need additional vitamins because the formulas are packed full!
You could make the formula a bit more watery, this will help hydrate baby more. Also, you can add about 1/2 or 1 TEAspoon of 100% apple juice or prune juice to a 2-4oz bottle and a little bit more for larger bottles. My son is breastfed and was constipated from the vitamin D drops the doc put him on, his doc said it would be ok to put a little bit of 100% juice in a bottle of breast milk or if I wanted a bottle of formula. I took him off the drops and it cleared right up!
Good luck!
Also, do leg exercises.
Cycle his legs like he is riding a bike... do so quickly, but gently. Also take his knees and gently, but firmly push them to his tummy you can also rock his hips back and forth, release and repeat.
If you rub/massage his tummy do so ONLY in a clockwise direction as that is the way the bowels flow... if you do so the opposite way it could constipate baby more.
If baby likes bathes, give baby a nice warm (obviously not too warm for his delicate skin) bath which should help him relax, you can rub./massage his tummy and/or back while he is in the tub.
