Labour?

My first labour was counted from my first minor pain until birth so it was 6 hours. I thought my second labour was an hour and 35 minutes as I counted it from when my waters were broken but on my paperwork the hospital has written that my total labour was only 40 minutes so they must have counted from when the contractions started.

well active couldn't always count as labor when you are 3cm dilated, because with my first son I was dilated 4 a month before I actually had him and not "in labor"

I beleive active labour (what counts as labour) is from 3cm dilated, but with my second I was in agony with not a lot happening, so as far as I am concerned, that whole time counted as labour.

Well my waters broke at 5:30pm the day before my due date but i had no contractions. I rang the midwife she told me to come in. My contractions didn't start till 11pm that night i laboured for 2hrs 10 mins (i went from 2cm to 10cm in that time) and pushed for 14 mins and out came my lil boy at 1:24am on his due date 12 Nov'09

With my first i was induced so its hard to realy juge i count it from when they broke my waters 3 hours the contractions strated soon after but they also hooked me up to pitocin at the same time. With my second i went in to labour on my own, i count from when contractions started 2 & 1/2 hours i cant count frome when my waters broke as they went 2 mins befor he was born. I have been very luck with my labours they have been fast. My Midwife keeps telling me im made for having babys but i still think two is enought but my boy is 2 weeks so well see in mabey a year how i feel.

Well since my water didn't break until right before I gave birth I count from my first pain until delivery.

I count from when my water broke. The contractions were so mild I had to be induced, though some say I was having back labor...

I classified being in labour as when my water broke, but I was having contractions before that. However, the contractions didn't really hurt until about 1/2 hour after my water broke.

well i counted mine from when they enduced me, right after that i was going about every 4 mins apart.. but my water didnt break until about 4 hours later then 2 hours after that i was in hard labour (3cm along)...

well I classed my from the time the pain got to much for staying in the bath tub that I had to call my midwife and went to the hospital from then to the arrival of baby was 6 hours.

i would say it was when my water broke. i had to be induced but the water breaking was a sign that it was starting.

It was hard to tell for me since I went in for an inuction and went into natural labor. I wasn't dialated at all by 10pm and was told to go to bed....I was having back to back contractions starting at midnight and when they checked I was 6cm so that's when they said I was in labor. My son was born 2 1/2 hours later

i could not count it as from when my water broke as they broke it just before she was born and as for the proper labour being 5cm i went from being 2 to 8 in under 2 hours so as i said before i count it from first pain till last otherwise my labour would of been very short lol

with all three of my children i was 4cm and didnt even know it, when labor did started it was only an hour and baby was in my arms

I classed it from when my contractions started to when I gave birth.
They started at 8:30am on my way to my 39 week appointment and when I got there my Doctor said I was in labour! :)

i class it from the moment my water broke to when the baby was out because my waterbroke before i even started to feel contractions but it didnt take long for the contractions to start after the break. i was in labor for 10 1/2 hours then gave birth to a girl named Taylor 6lbs 6oz

i had been 4 cm for a week when my contractions started and i consider labour started when they did because they were regular (5 mins right from the start). start to finish was 32 hours, 2 hrs of which were pushing (dr broke my water as i was pushing so i definately don't consider that the start of labour! )

First birth(17 mo ago): I had contractions all night long one night, then nothing all the next day. Then I had contractions all night again. I called my midwife around 7 or so, and by 11:30, my son was born. By my midwife's count(when she came out), 5 hours... by my count (first contraction to birth) it was about 36 hours. when I talk about it generally, I just say 5 hours.

Second birth(3 mo ago): I started my contractions at about 5PM. My daughter was born at about 7AM the next morning. My midwife counts this labor as 5 hours, too, because that's when she came out. If I count it by when the contractions start, it was about 14 hours.

If I counted either of my labors by water breaking, I'd be less than 2 hours. My midwife had to break my water with my son, and he was born a half-hour later. With my daughter, I was WELL into labor when my water broke.

If I count "Pushing labor", I was only in labor for 5 minutes for my daughter, and about 20 for my son. With my daughter, my sister-in-law showed up before I started pushing. She ran two errands (fetch a glass of water, fetch a wet rag), and then came back in time to watch Cassie's birth.

I was induced as I was a week and a half over due they broke my water at 8:45am.. by 11:25am I was fully dialted and at 11:33am Kadien was born 9lbs 15oz 22 inches. so I would consider my labour 2hrs 40 mins and 9 mins of pushing... so to round up 3 hrs

i count it from when the pain got bad enough to go to the hospital the first time where they said i was in labor but not dialated enough to be admitted (3-4cm, damn military doctors!) 12hrs later after being up all night with contractions, i was back at the hospital 5 cm dialated and they admitted me. 7 hrs (2hrs of pushing and a csection) later i gave birth. so all together 19hrs!

well for me labor and delivery was a breeze until medicl interventions were used then it was a work out but nothing like they show on tv. it is a natural process that i believe all women have the ability to do naturally and without pain medication and or medical interventions as long as it is a normal labor and delivery if u utilize the right tools. like a cnm that shares ur philosophy, a philosophy a doula family support confidence in yourself and being prepared. knowing is 1/2 the battle including knowing possible complications and the medical aspect not just what ur going to feel and what ur body id going to do.

with my 1st child i didn't even know i was in labor i went for an exam and i was 1cm dilated however to early at 31 wks. i went on bedrest til 36 wks and after 2 days off i went for a regular ck up again not in "active labor" but was 6 cm dilated by the time i got to the hospital later that night after getting permission to run errands i was she'd up and began the process. they decided to pop my water at 7 cm because i wasnt having reular contractions. immediatley after they did this i went into intense labor with double contractions it was overwhelmin at 1st going from no pain to that. but i managed after a short anxiety attack and got in the zone with the help of my doula, gisband and most important me. once i was ther less then 1 hr 1 was fully dilated and ready to push got her out in about 4 pushes

i am now 38 wks and hvn trouble getting this one out i've been dilated for a month and friday went into the hospital with cxn 4/5 cm dilated which i found out the day efoe by my cnm. however after working with my doula and my body to attempt to dilate more i got to 5 and that was i. finally after refusing any medical interventions like pitocin and breaking my water why when both the baby n i r fine he will come when he wants.i would be nice to dilatet to ten n not know it then pop my water if i cant contract on my own he'd be out in like 5 mins

I classed it from when my contractions started to hurt, with my daughter I was in sporadic labour for 6 days but from full on contractions I was in labour for 22.5 hours, yet my son was a 5.5 labour.

I just went from what the nurse told me.... from my 1st "pains" though it was 13 hrs but they just didnt hurt so i couldnt count that. I guess it would have been from the start of dialation. and that was 5hrs 45mins!

Labor is from the time you start contracting every 2 minutes or you start to dilate consistently.

I count from when I knew I was in labour. I went to the hospital and was told I was 5 cm and in labour...so that's when I start my count.

mine was 9 hours altogether and thats with my first baby. Aww thank you i actually like my name to lol not tht keen on abi though lol and i could not count it from my waters breaking as i got my waters broke bout 20 mins before giving birth. how long was your labour hun x

from my first ever contraction to giving birth was 3 hours.. when they started thye were 3 mins apart and i stayed at him for an hour an half. then went to hosp and i was 3cm.. then 45 mins later i was 9cm and ready to push!

i counted it from when my waters first broke...1998 i was awaiting the birth of my 1st child & not knowing what was going on i was getting little pains but nothing major so i was induced & 3hrs 20 mins later my 1st son arrived 9pd 51cm long....in 2000 i went in to labour again with my 2nd son 6wks early i was awoken to lil tingles of pain down my side nothing major so i grab my bag & off i went again & 2hrs 35mins later i welcomed my son 7pd 4oz 56cm long early but healthy with no inductions no pain relief...2009 i welcomed my 3rd child a daughter in to the world a healthy 8pd 6oz 53cm long arrived after 1hr & 15 mins my pain threshold is sky high so what others think of pain i may think as a scratch.

I counted it from when I lost my plug ... as I was getting contractions soon after but not painful until the following day ... the whole labour went for 2.5 days.

i class it like you. my labor was 37 hours long and i ended up having a c section(stubborn child) my water was leaking for 3 days before it completely broke. i only got to 4 cm dilated after all that and then her heart rate started dropping rapidly. but the c section was only a half hour from the time they first cut me until the time they finishing closing me back up

I counted it from when my waters broke. Thats when the pain went from period type pain to actual contractions. The nurse kept touching my belly and told me labour is when the contractions lasts a full minute. My labour took 4 hours

I class mine from when i was told my a nurse that i was in labour, 90 mins before i delivered. Before that i thought i was having braxton hicks and they pain really wasnt bad, and im a BIG SOOK when it comes to pain, i olnly went to the hospital cause my mum was convinced i was in labour. when i got there i was already 6cm.

i could have sworn like a million times i had started contractions, turned out i was having back pains and irregular contractions for 2 days up until my water broke. It wasn't until my water broke that I KNEW i was have contractions, they stopped me in my tracks i didn't want to move.

The hospital told me labor is classified as having continual real contractions less than 4 minutes apart and being more than 4 and a half centimeters dialated.

i classed it from when my contractions started to hurt. i was contracting for an hour or so before it started to hurt ...the little contractions i didnt count. i think i was less then 4cm when it got painful though.
