My husband and I are considering switching back to "the pill" because the strings from my mirena are hurting him. He said it feel almost like wires stabbing right inton the tip of his penis. I just recently got it put in so I'm not even comepletely sure it's in the right place. I just wanted to see if there was anything my doctor could do to fix it or should I just go back to birth control pills?

My husband is complaining of the pain. I thought he was exagerating after i showed him a picture of the iud, I thought he was playing around than he got cut. Is it possible that that is what cut him. I have lost interest in sex. Lots of pain cramps head aches. Discomfort.... Was seen by my doctor he said to wait a little longer before i get it removed. What should i do???? I dont want no more babies and pills are not for me.

I stopped feeling the wires of my mirena, I'm certain it didn't come out. Could they have been pushed out of my reach during sex? Should I be worried?

Thank you for your help. I didn't think they could be too long. But that does make sense because after I had it put in I could barely feel the strings and now they feel longer than before so I definately need to get that checked out.

The Mirena can really be tricky. This is my second one. Once after the first baby, this one after the second.

It can be a problem if the strings are too long or too short. Too long... rubs against the side of the penis. Too short, pokes it. I have experienced it all.

And it does get a little softer over time. If your husband is complaining about stabbing, they may already be too short. If you aren't too spooked by it, reach in and see if you can feel the strings. Do they feel long or short to you?

Ths first one I had, it was like it was almost hanging out the string was so long and then it got cut too short!

The doc can help. It's great if you can keep it. No troubles or worries AND it makes periods lighter and possibly dissapear. Sad to hear about the cysts. That's scary!

I had mirena fitted nearly 2 months ago and just had my "fit check" with the docs, she has said if hubby can feel the strings to go back and they will trim them back a bit (althouh they can only trim so far, they still need to be able to remove the device) and Lesley, she also told be it can take up to 6 months for your bleeds to regulate, either to once a month like normal (just lighter) or none at all, as I have been bleeding on and off also

My doctor told me if I had any issues w/ it bothering my partner to come back in and they could cut the strings shorter. You might try that before going back to the pill.

Lesley, I had mine put in 2 months ago and I just stopped bleeding yesterday. I don't know what the average time of bleeding is afterwards but you should be done by 3 months ( that's what my doc told me so hopefully that helps)

Well I was told by my doctor that its when they are too short is when they poke......the wires are meant to sort of cup the cervix in a sense. so if they are too short they will poke through and too long they wont cup (spoon) the cervix properly.. so apparently its a matter of sort of trial and error....2nd time lucky with mine and I dont even know its there and neither does my partner

OMG seriously?? That sucks. The only reason I don't like the pill is because I have a hrad time remembering to take it no matter what I do. But I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen for about 4 years and never had a problem with it so if cutting the strings doesn't help I may just go back to it. Thank you everyone helping me out with this!

My friend has been on Mirena for a year, they just found 2 cyst on her ovieris. The doc. said that It is from the Mirena and there has been a lot of lawsuits starting because of them.. You might want to go to the pill or to a older form of the IUD.

LOL!!! I had to same problem. Go back and tell your doctor whats going on and tell him/her to cut the string shorter. After you've had it in there awhile the strings will soften up anyway. But your doctor will be able to fix this for you! Hope this helps.

Ur welcome. Try taking a small hand held mirror & looking to see if maybe ur IUD might have come down some though. That might help also

I'm not on the Mirena but I did have the Paragard IUD awhile back. They say it's normal if ur partner feels them but they shouldn't hurt them. If they're too long I would talk to ur doctor about maybe cutting them a little bit.
