My baby got a cold and has symptoms of a stuffy, runny nose. Is a little warm and coughs at times, but no fever. He is lethargic and I'm putting him down when I can for naps after nursing him. Any tips on what to do to help him feel better such as a humidifier? Should I change my diet since I'm nursing him? Not sure what to do since my doctor is away...

My little premmie was 12 weeks early and has only been home a week and already has a cold! Blah!!! Im going to put him in the steamed up bathroom tonight to clear him up a little. But the nurse told me today that came to visit, that when they sneeze it gets out a lot of what needs to come out, and the aspirator and saline works a treat too.

my advice would be go and see a doctor and see what he says i only thought my son had a cold and just treated him for that but after 2 days of him still being the same i decided to take him to see a doctor although my doctor wasnt there i went to the out of hours doctor and it turned out my son not only had a cold but had a chest infection aswell. my son is also 4 months and it better to be safe as a 4 month old cant tell you how they are feeling

Our daughter got her first cold when she was 3 months old and it's definitely not fun! But I agree with everything Brandi suggested and the saline drops help a ton. Hope he gets better really soon! :)

Quoting Brandi:

A humidifier in his room is going to help a lot. Also, try sitting in the bathroom with the door closed and a HOT shower running. Sit in the steam for about 15 mins. It will really help to open the nasal passages. Also, saline drops in the nose followed by the bulb aspirator (He'll hate it but it really helps, too). (the saline drops can be purchased at any drug store or supermarket they're called "little noses"). They make a baby vapo rub that helps some, too. Tylenol will help if he gets a fever and if he's achy it will help that too. Other than that, just lots of love and attention. Most baby colds don't last longer than 48 hours or so. If he gets a fever that persists longer than 24 hours. call a dr. He probably has a more severe infection that might require antibiotics (plus at 4 mos. the drs generally want to see them anytime they get a fever) Good luck and I know it's scary, but he'll get better. :-)

my baby got sick when he was 1 1/2 wks old. this is basically what i was told to do when he saw the doc. humidifier, saline drops, ans an aspirator. i couldn't even give him tylenol, because he was so little.
