it's normal for a baby to get hiccups. they get them more once they become more mobile, all it is is their stomach moving out of synch with the rest of the body. fortunately, they don't get as uncomfortable as we do when we have them, so it's not the same reaction. i think you're more bothered by it than your baby is. try giving him some milk/formula or something to suck on. that should get it back into the rhythm. good luck!

A nurse in the NICU once told me that a baby gets hiccups from too much handling, being moved around too much. I don't know how true that is though?

I was also going to suggest Little Tummies Gripe Water. It works well for hiccups. There is nothing harmful about hiccups, though it may just be annoying to your little one. My son used to get them all the time, especially after eating. You might also try switching the nipple on his bottle, as hiccups can sometimes be caused from lack of air through eating too quickly. I do not think this will prevent them altogether, but it may decrease the frequency. Hope that helps!

I used gripe water from day 1 with my daughter who is now 5 months. When she gets them and get frustrated I give her 2ml of gripe water and they go away, it helps!!

When my daughter was aged 2 - 3 months old she always got the hiccups. It was also around this time she stopped day sleeping. According to my midwife tired babies who do not get enough sleep get hiccups quite frequently. After getting her sleeping sorted out (she is now 6 mo, and has two 2.5 hours sleeps/day and 12 hours at night), she very rarely gets them. It may NOT be the cause but perhaps your son is tired?

Unfortunantly i dont think there is any way to prevent them. My 3 and a half month old boy can get the hiccups up to 5 times a day and the only way i have found to get rid of them is by feeding him. My dr said its their bodys way of getting used to the world and its body having to digest food on its own. Good luck and i hope this phase passes soon.
