My baby Cries & holds breath.... any suggesions?

My baby is 3 months old and since he was really little he would sometimes get so upset that he will hold his breath. I find this scary so I usually pick him up immediately and he will breathe in a second or two. Some people say that you have to let them cry and they will breathe if they hold their breath but it makes me nervous. Does anyone have this problem & how did you handle it??

I've always been told to blow in their face. when they do that.

Is it possible a baby will hold their breath until they pass out or will they have the automatic reflex to breathe?

All my kids have done this (youngest is 4 wks) and I always blew/blow in their face when it happens. Makes them reset so to speak...they catch their breath quickly.

My brother did this when he was a baby and so does my son. We just blow into their faces to get them to catch their breath. Same thing as Kristin and Michelle said!

yea.. ill have to agree. when my 4 month old does that i just breathe in her face and she breathes right away.

my cousin inlaws baby does and he blows in her face when she dont breath and it makes her catch her breath
