he poops maybe ever 4-5 days. he's breastfed w/2-3 bottles of formula a day. he poops if i give him a little bit of apple juice w/water or karo syrup in his bottle. this does not seem normal to me but he sure doesn't act like it bothers him..no fussiness really. who else has this problem or experienced this?

I would stop using karo syrup/juice, and definitely don't go the suppository route. Things like that can really screw up their delicate digestive systems. Totally normal for a breastfed baby to go awhile without pooping. My daughter used to only poop once every 1-2 weeks. As long as the poo is soft (not hard little pellets), baby's tummy is soft, and he doesn't appear to be in pain, just let him be.

My doctor says its fine as long as they arent fussy my daughter would go 3-4 days and be screaming so our pediatrition told us to give her a little bit of juice a day. So we started that at 3 months and ever since she went poop everyday and was as happy as could be. She is now 10 months old and doesnt need the juice daily and all of her teeth are healthy as can be:))

If your baby isn't fussy, it's not a problem. Some breastfed babies can go 7-10 days between poops and it's completely healthy and normal. You should only be concerned if it is really bothering him (remember, though, that it's completely normal for babies to grunt and strain a little when they go since they're learning to use the muscles) or if the poop is hard. If the poop is soft and he's not bothered, then going every 4-5 days may just be what's normal for him.

breastfed babies dont poop as often as formula fed babies! my son only pooped every 3-4 days while on breastmilk! it is mostly nutrition, so not much waste to get rid of!

Most breastfed babies don't poop every day. As long as he's not uncomfortable, I'd just watch it.

my baby is like that as well. we give her suppositories, and that usually works. my dr. prescribed her lactolose, and that worked for a while, as well as giving her white grape juice. we're still giving her the juice, but the medicine has kind of lost its effect. i would say talk to your pediatrician, and see what they say about it.
