My six week old and reflux/constapation issues!

My little man had reflux and was put onto infant Gaviscon, it worked wonders however it made him sooooo constipated that he was in agony when trying to poo. We have since taken him off the Gaviscon and changed his milk to SMA STAYDOWN which is for babies with reflux. We get it from the doctors however you can buy it from Boots and big supermarkets.......It is amazing, no more reflux or difficulty going to the toilet. Dr Brown Bottles seemed to make a difference to. Never put rice cereal in a babies bottle!



Also raise one end of his cot and try to keep upright for 40mins after a feed. Never pat his back to wind him as it causes more irritation, but rub instead.

my 1 year old son had reflux .it was a horrible time for us cos we thought we was going 2 lose him .cos he was nothing but skin and bone .he had a oparation on his beley button .he was giving special milk 2 take .and now look at him you wouldnt think he had it .

You can use barley or oatmeal instead of the rice....we did. Kayro syrup did not work for our baby...

Try Barley cereal or oatmeal instead - they do not constipate...

my baby girl also has reflux but i used to breast feed and at 6 weeks she too was constipated inspite of it. But the doc to;me that it was nothing to worry about as their body uses their food intake a lot for growth and sometimes baby's poop everyother day. as long as the poop is not very solid you have nothing to worry about. as for the gagging you need to keep baby as upright as possible while feeding and a pillow underneath his mattress so that he sleeps at an incline and the chances of gagging when he sleeps decreases. I did that with my baby and it worked ..... good news is after 4 months the problem is less intense.... we used to give her an antacid but you might want to ask your doctor about that.....

My son has been constipated for months now and i tried everything, until last week i found a new formula novolac for constipated babies it has worked wonders : )

my doctor recommended putting a teaspoon of molasses in his formula bottle and let me tell you that worked wonders. Also suppositories. sounds awful but they dont hurt the child and its such quick relief. As far as gagging i dont have alot of information on what can help as i never had that issue. Molasses tho is really easy on their belly and it worked wonders. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Have you tried Similac Sensitive RS (Rice Starch) for reflux and spit up? It alrady has the rice starch added and doesn't add excess calories...stooling patterns are also similar to that of a regular formula fed baby, so he should have more frequent bowel movements.

oh also found out he had slight milk allergy, his poo was still hard and a dark green color they switched to prosobee he was all lined out! he was able to get off zantac and no reflux around 6 months but i still do rice in bottle let me know if it helped!

my son was diagnosed with acid reflux at the same age my ped prescribed zantac i think it was 1 ml worked like magic he never cryed in pain again! also she said put a teaspoon of rice to the ounce of formula try that it will sooth the burning from reflux. works trust me! lol was lucky he didnt get constpated but i worked in ob for a year and they say put your finger over the rectum and slightly push going in clockwise circle. it gives them sinsation to push i had to few times and worked great. sounds weird but hey if it helps?!

My son had reflux and i put him on infant gaviscon, i knew the sign's as my eldest had it aswell. Helped alot. add one sachet to the bottle. I would recommend asking doc first though.

It is only considered constipation if the poop is hard and difficult to pass. It doesn't have anything to do with how frequently he poops. Also, did your doctor recommend adding cereal to his bottle? My understanding is that he is way too young for that and should only be eating formula. I would double check that as soon as possible because that may be causing other problems.

I THINK THE PROBLEM IS THE RICE CEREAL..THAT CONSTAPATED MY KIDS TO BUT THEN AGAIN IF I FED THEM OATMEAL THEY WOULD GET DIARREAH SO I BOUGHT THE MIX AND IT TO WOULD CONSTAPATE HIM...SO I HAD TO BUY THEM BOTH SEPERATE AND IN A EMPTY FORMULA CAN I WOULD PUT 1/2 OF EACH MIX IT AND IT HELPED ALOT..THE GAGGING WHY DONT YOU LAY HIM SIDE WAYS WITH 2 SMALL PILLOWS ONE IN BACK ONE IN FRONT THATS HOW NORMALLY SLEEP MY KIDS IM JUST SCARED OF THEM GAGGING AND ME NOT HEARING..
