Hey everyone,

So I’ve been breastfeeding my daughter for over 4 months now. Due to severe back pain I’ve been taking Norco’s or narcotics at least 3 times a day. My ob/gyn as well as her pediatrician have said this is ok because norcos are the lesser version of narcotics and that they don’t pass through the milk. When I visited my primary doctor he told me the opposite and said narcotics have been proven to pass through milk and be dangerous to your baby. I also looked at kellymom.com and narcotics were listed as safe to take. Anyone have a definite answer on this medication and whether its safe to breast feed on?

I’m ready to switch to formula because I’m seriously thinking I’m harming my baby. In addition to the narcotics I also take zyrtec and sometimes zyrtec with Sudafed which my obgyn also told me is completely safe. Any ladies have a definite answer or any input? Anyone breastfeeding long term while using narcotics? I also was given narcotics for about 2 months after I tore at the hospital during delivery. My baby seems fine but sometimes she gets very fussy, and has a very tough time falling asleep. She also doesn’t sleep much regardless or for long periods of time. Hope this is not from the medication. Please let me know.

Kellymom.com is a great resource. If they say it's not passing through your milk, then it probably isn't. But it's really up to you. I had the same problem with Ultram's and had to stop BF. But they DID pass through. Even kellymom.com said so.
