Neck Cleaning: It could be the yeast infection, it might not, when I first noticed the same on my daughter it was the morning before one of her needles so I showed it to the nurse and she said before making an appointment and getting a cream from the dr to try a little diaper rash cream, we used peneten then, or galaxial base, which is a really thick cream with a block to keep other stuff off her skin.... the diaper rash cream worked and its been gone since, she's 13 mo now.... Early teething: my husbands uncle was born with a tooth so it is possible that it could be just watch it and if in doubt see a dr or dentist to be sure... the crawling/rolling: it might be signs but he SHOULDN'T be strong enough yet, but every baby is different, just check on him more often when he sleeps if your worried or if he does start rolling. My nephew started trying to roll early and he didn't roll till I think 3 months, or 4 months, and didn't actually get on his hands and knees till a couple days ago, and he's 6 months now. The neck/head lifting, my daughter was doing that at just a few days old, even the nurses were wowed by her head control, but of course keep doing what you said by keeping your hand at the back of his head & neck, just to make sure he doesn't hurt himself. I know the neck thing is gross, my daughter got stuff in her neck like I never thought possible, so cleaning & creaming it up was a must till 4 or 5 months with her.

Well as for her lifting her head when my son was born back in march he was lifting his head while we were still in the hospital! So I wouldnt worry too much about that it just means she has a strong neck. As for her pushing down with her legs both of my kids started doing that at about 2 weeks old. I think it's their way of stretching. Now the neck problem. My son got very chubby very quickly and I had the same issue. All I did was lay him down and gently grab his chin and lift it up to wipe really quick underneith. He never liked it and cried but only for a few short minutes.

I have had 3 of my girls show the same signs in the way of head lifting, turning over, crawling, and walking. They all walked early and even tried standing by 2 or 3 months while we were holding them. They all were walking by 7 months. :) LOL Good Luck!
The neck cleaning I would see a doctor for because the pus and redness could be sores and those can get infected easily. As for teething...some babies are born with teeth already. :)

About the neck cleaning. My daughter (now 7 months) had the same thing. She would also occasionally get it in her arm pits also. My mom said that when I was a baby, she would call it lint gone bad. Lol. It would smell really foul. I brought her to the dr when I noticed a little rash there, and she said that it was yeast, which is common. It's from spit up staying there, and the rolls keep it from drying out. It was really hard to clean during bathtime, but I would try. I found the best way to clean it was during diaper changes. I would use both hands (She hated it) and pick up her head where she would be looking up, then I would take a diaper wipe and clean it every day. Now that she's older, she's got a little more of a neck is doesn't happen anymore.

My daughter had the same neck problem.Her neck would get really red and she fraked when i tried cleaning under it.I tried a little bit of penaten cream on the rash under her neck and let it sit for a few hours then use a damp cloth to wipe it clean and it was already a lot better.Teething can happen at any age but the signs for it is lots of drooling(more then normal) and your baby will put lots of things in their mouth,remember baby can feel the pain from the teeth before we can see them.As for the crawling it is way too soon but it dounds like shes just getting to know her feet, maybe she discovered her feet are connected to her legs and trying to hold herself up standing.Thats normal just hold her while holding her weight,she will start to learn balance.Give baby time on her belly on the floor on a blanket once in a while, she will learn in her own way how to first roll over then sit up on her own and then crawl but it does take time.My babygirl was rolling over at 2 months crawling at 5 and now trying to pull herself up on furniture.It is deffinatly not to early for anything really, if she is holding her head up already thats amazing, every baby leanrs at their own pace,she will be a little floppy at first with her head its normal,help support her head when you see she needs it but if she lifts it up on her own or turn to look at something let her its her way of learning :) good luck

the neck thing... chubby babies can get rashes and yeast infections in their fat folds so u may let the pediatrician look at it but dont worry.

teething... my son seem\ed to be getting a tooth starting that early but didnt poke thru months later so wouldnt worry about it now most likely be a while.

rolling over... my son showed zero signs of rolling then one day did it out of nowhere but my nephews seemed to be close but took longer to actually roll so its anybodies guess when she will every baby is different.

neck lifting... totally normal it just looks scary cuz they r so tiny but my son did it all the time only problem is watch doorways my son had bad timing and did it as i was holding him in a doorway n bumped his head on the jam :(

he is 16 months now

oh, i remember when i read someone elses post about yeast infections on the neck....my MIL had said that she used Desitin on the neck of my SIL when she was a baby.

I used to work for an Oral Surgeon and I can tell you that babies start getting teeth as early as in the womb...wierd, I know, but it has happened!!! Usually babies will start teething around 3 months and sometimes wont even actually get their tooth until the next month. Every baby is different and some get teeth sooner and some later.



The gunk on the neck is common....when they eat, milk will drip into their creases and stay there if it isnt cleaned right away. Make it a habit to clean under the chin after every feeding. The red mark is irritated skin....not sure what to do about it (my baby was the skinniest baby ever so never had that issue). My MIL told me a looong time ago but i forgot =[



the head lifting can happen around 2 onths, some earlier, some later. my baby rolled from her back to tummy at 2 months, she was a preemie so her adjusted age was 1 month, and then didnt do it again until she was already crawling....which was at around 7 months, lol.

I think it is called the startle reflex, when a baby stretches out. Not quite sure of that! But also it could possibly be a sign of discomfort, after feeds my son use to stretch out and arch back as his tummy was hurting. Burping him helped with this.

Glad you posted about the yeast infection under the neck, my son has this also and he is 7 months old, it is soooo hard to get rid of especially if your bub is a chubba like mine :) Use products on the skin that are non-irritant, no nasty ingredients.

michelle sounds spot on. my boy used to lift his head as soon as born has never had any back problems carry on as you are supportin head behind so she doesnt throw it too far back. she wont hurt her feet if you are supporting her. try sitting her side ways on your knee to burp her so she cant dig her feet/legs into your scar. yep the redness sounds like a yeast infection and needs a visit to the docs for some cream this area needs a wipe with clean damp cotton wool or cloth am and pm. as for teeth anything is possible .

You have good advice about the neck folds already. I used to put anti-rash powder or cream on my baby to keep the area dry and stop the rash (which becomes an infection) from returning - but get advice from your doctor about this as you cant use these things if the skin is broken (and some people say you shouldnt use powder on babies in case they breathe it in). Basically you need to keep the folds under the skin dry (so the powder I used soaks up the sweat) and when bathing her you need to clean and dry thoroughly under all skin folds.



The most common signs of teething are excessive drooling, chewing on things (which your baby is too young for - she will only just be finding her hands soon) and nappy rash (which is also common for young babies anyway). Try feeling her gums, if you can feel something hard and sharp under there then its a tooth moving. Remember that teeth move around a lot before they finally decide to appear, sometimes for months, so often you can feel it one day and think its coming through soon but then it goes back in. It is totally possible that her teeth are bothering her.



3 - That's rubbish, lol! It is not a sign of crawling its an instinctive reflex all babies have. You can see this reflex in action if you put any baby on the floor on their tummy and hold their feet and push their legs up towards them like "frog legs" the baby will push off and move in a forwards direction. I have forgotten what the reflex is called, but that's all it is. Some babies show it more often than others.



4- I dont understand why they freak out either. She is strengthening her head. LIfting her head, trying to throw her head backwards and trying to throw her whole body backwards are all normal movements for a new baby. All babies lift their head to look around within the first couple of weeks, some do it from birth.

Climate could have something to do w/the yeast infection. Also, make sure her neck stays DRY!!! When feeding her tuck a burp cloth under her chin/along the side of it. I know my son made a mess nursing for about the first month or so. Like another mother said tilt her so her head sort of falls back.

climate could play a part if it was very warm and your baby started to sweat and it accumulated in the creases under the neck. Just make sure after you get it cleared up that when you are washing under there that you take care to dry it very well, because the moisture is what is creating the breeding ground for the yeast.

Cleaning the neck is tricky when they wont lift there head...you just got get under there....I agree it Might be a yeast ...thing try holding her so her head falls back a bit and soak a towel and squeeze some warm water over her neck then wipe gentely

*for the second part she could be actually trying arch due to reflux...thats what it sounds like to me anyway! The standing thing ...my son did that aswell!

Your baby sounds advanced is all!

Babies are stronger these days just keep a watch no need to freak out though!

About the neck cleaning, talk to her pediatrician, it may be a yeast infection.
Teething, babies can get teeth at any age! I was born w/teeth!!!! My son has been teething since he was about 1.5months old, but still has not cut a tooth.
About the "crawling/turning over". Standing/putting weight on her feet/legs will not harm her feet! My son has been lifting his head since the day he was born, has also had really good head control since he was born. He has been standing/putting pressure/weight on his legs since he was a few days old and is fine. His pediatrician also said it was fine and helps him to strengthen his muscles! My son rolled front to back (most common to do first) at about 2 or 2 1/2 months old. He is now rolling from back to front and vise versa like a pro for about a week or so now and will be 5 months tomorrow. He is really close to crawling already, he can get up on his arms (elbows straight, has been doing this for a long time now) and gets on his knees like he were to start crawling, but doesn't do them both at the same time. He does a half a**ed army crawl though and also while on his tummy pushes off the floor w/his toes, but only w/a straight body.
Neck lifting.... it is not too early. Like I said earlier, my son has been doing this since the day he was born!

Yea My daughter is 4months and she acts like shes teething my son got his first tooth at 5months! Ive heard of babies being born with teeth so anything is possible! And for the holding the head up my daughter was trying to hold hers up at the hospital both my kids did actually! And yea sounds like a yeast infection my daughter just got over a diaper rash yeast infection it looked horrible but they will gave me this cream and it went away in 2weeks! And My daughter would do that at about that age to she would stand on my scar and it would hurt so bad but there just stretching my lil girl still does it and it still hurts sometimes lol she just now started rolling over on her own so i dont think yours will for another 3 months or so!

Neck Cleaning: My daughter had the same problem. Took her to the pediatrician and the doc said it was yeast, and that it is very important to clean under her skin folds. The redness is raw tender spots, You will have to take her to the doc so they can prescribe an ointment to get rid of the yeast.
Neck lifting: No it is not to early for your baby to be lifting her head. My daughter did the same thing and she is 4 months now and is fine. Just be sure you support her head and everything will be fine:) I can recommend a book that my baby's doc recommended and says is the best book out there for the baby. It is called what to expect baby's first year. It is an awesome amazing book! It has every question and answer you can think of in that book.

In regards to the head lifting: my daughter was the same way...she was trying to hold her own head up even before we left the hospital. I was just sure to always continue to support her head as even tho she is trying to hold her own head up, she still doesn't have the muscle strength. If she is laying on her tummy and doing it, I wouldn't freak out or discourage it. just make sure when you are holding her, her head isn't flopping around or anything.
Same thing with trying to stand with her legs. my baby was also doing this, I just made sure to give her lots of support. I think its just baby stretching her legs. Even tho my baby did this, she didn't crawl till about 7 months and didn't roll over till around 4 and a half months.
As for the teething, anything could be possible. If you notice she seems fussy, try letting her gnaw on one of your clean fingers. I let my daughter bite on a damp cool clean wash cloth and this seemed to really help her.
And from the symptoms you are describing about what you have found under your babys neck, it sounds like a yeast infection. Yeast infections can form in the folds of skin if sweat or milk or any moisture is allowed to sit under there without being cleaned away. I didn't personally experience this with my daughter but I have seen it at work with the elderly people i take care of. I would make an appointment with your doctor to see if that is infact what is going on. if it is, he will probably give you a cream to put on it to take it away. Just be sure to keep the area clean and dry at all times.
