Night confusion

My son is 7 weeks old tomorrow and he is not sleeping well at night at all. He wakes up every hour to two hours and he wants to eat. During the day, he'll sleep for a few hours at a time. While it makes it great for me to get things done or take a nap myself, I can't stand not getting any sleep at night. Anyone have any suggestions for getting him to switch his day and night schedules? I've only got a few more weeks before I go back to work and it's not going to work if I can't get any sleep at night!

I know this Sound Really Silly but it Worked With my  Daughter Who had her days and Nights Switched ... you put her on your Bed  on her/his   Back and you flip her/him (Gentally) almost like  a cycle  ... I don't Know Why or  how that Worked But it Did ... good Luck ....

my Mother in law told me  about  it and at the time I was So Sleep Deprived that  I would try anything  lol

I think I may have found a solution for us!!  We recently bought a positioner that we put in his crib in our room.  It's really a great tool...it's a mat with little bumpers on either side--we feed him and when he's almost done eating his bottle, we swaddle him and let him finish eating while swaddled.  Then, when he's almost asleep or asleep, I lay him in his crib in the positioner and he sleeps like that for a good 3.5-5 hours depending on if there's anything that interrupts him.  As for the night confusion...he's getting better at keeping himself awake during the day.  We play and do tummy time and sit in the bumbo.  It's working!!  :-)

Maybe start a routine to help him distinguish between night and day. wake him and feed him, bathe and dress and play then nap and do it again through out the day. At night get a bedtime routine going ie bath feed play and down for sleep.....maybe this will help, cant hurt to try...

Sissy, I'm having the same sort of problem with Coosh, only that he was sleeping really well at night until a few weeks ago and now he's waking up all the time to eat and refuses to sleep for very long by himself. He's gotten into the habit of sleeping for like 3 to 4 hours in the middle of the afternoon (which is his only nap during the day lately), but will NOT sleep for that long at night no matter what I do. If you can figure out a way to get Hunter to sleep more at night and by himself, you let me know! Love ya!

i would suggest to switch when you give him his bath. i was giving my son his baths at night and he wasn't sleeping well at all so i switched and started giving his baths in the morning and he sleeps through the night. also try to sleep with a fan on or a white noise machine. a fan helps reduce the risk of sids.

I would try making sure that he is eating really well during the day; feed him in a dark and quiet room - do breast compressions while you're feeding him so that he keeps drinking well (lots of swallowing).  At night, you could try rocking him to sleep some of the times he wakes up (maybe every 2nd time) so that he starts to consolidate his sleep cycles - if he can get to sleep without eating, he's more likely to be able stay asleep when his sleep lightens.
