I gave birth to my first child 8 months ago. I am breastfeeding. I have yet to get my period! I have heard that some women don't get theirs until they finish breastfeeding, but I am unable to take hormonal birth controls and am concerned about getting pregnant so soon.

I am NOT breastfeeding and it is 7 months since I had my son. I got a regular period the first 2 months afterwards. This is was my cycle has done:
October 7th gave birth bled about 2 weeks.
November 30th Period
December 28th Period
January nothing
February 15 period
March 15 period
April nothing
May nothing
I am worried but I have taken many pregnancy tests and the result has been negative. Could someone help me find the answer to what is going on?

I went a year with my two eldest. Its normal. As long as they still have a night time feed then your body naturally will not release eggs. However the chance of pregnancy increases when night time feeds decrease - its all to do with when teh body makes certain chemicals. There are many options out there that do not involve taking the pill if you want extra safety.

I got pregnant while breastfeeding so don't let that make you think it won't happen. That is an old wife's tale. My OB said some women don't get pregnant while breastfeeding but it is just by sheer luck and has nothing to do with breastfeeding. Sorry to burst any ones bubble.

Normal. Completely normal not to have periods while breast feeding. You shouldn't be at risk to get pregnant if you are not ovulating. However, there is a test called an Ovulens. It's a mini microscope you spit on and it tells you if you are ovulating. Ingenious. You should be able to get one through your doctor. I got mine through my Midwife.I've been breast feeding but I got my period within a couple of months after my daughter was born. So it was kinda scary to think I could have another one sooo soon! But the lens has really helped.

I Breastfed four children for over a year each never had a cycle while nursing and never got pregnant it's natures way. You will however experience dryness during sex due to nursing. If your wanting your cycle to be more regular as your PCP about progesterone to get it going regularly. I had to do that even when I stopped nursing my first to get pregnant with my next. Good luck and blessings for your health.

My baby is 8 months and I stopped breastfeeding about a month ago. Still no period since October 2013 (17 months!!). I had pregnancy tests but not for sometime now but no symptoms of pregnancy at all. Couple times now I've gotten period-like cramps, pretty painful but only for a couple hours and quite some days between these pains. No idea what's going on and no birth control has me too freaked out to even take a test. I'm done having babies lol but I have a feeling that I am not pregnant

I hated it when it came back, though i was not worried about getting pregnant again. I cant help in that place though there is a mini pill you can take while breastfeeding. you could look into that for the mean time

When your breastfeeding you still need contraception because you can get pregnant, with breastfeeding people think you cant get pregnant thats totally wrong!!!! period or no period you can, always take precausion if you dont want another baby straight away

My daughter was almost 4 months when I got mine, there is a birth control made just for breastfeeding moms the generic for it is Camilia (or something like that) but your doctor can tell you.
