Phantom kicks 7.5 months after pregnancy?

I had the usual phantom kicks after pregnancy for about a month after giving birth to my daughter, and then they went away. The past few days I have been having them again. I have an IUD (since late August), and my periods have been generally regular. However, the past week or so I have been having menstrual-like cramping, though my period is over. And that is uncommon for me to have. Even in my past periods since I had my IUD put in I didn't have post-period cramping.

I took a pregnancy test about 45 minutes ago and it came back negative, which is a relief.

Have any of you had phantom kicks this late after pregnancy??

It's really weird, and a little unnerving.

And here I thought I was losing my mind. My youngest is 2 1/2 and I will still feel tiny kicking movements in my tummy. Especially when I'm laying down. Never felt this kind of thing before I had kids.

I felt them the day he was born. Kinda makes me sad because I am full of joy that here's here but for some reason I miss him being in my tummy. lol I have only had a couple since then, though.

I'm really glad you posted this. I've never heard of phantom kicks after pregnancy but I've certainly felt them! I still get them from time to time and my daughter is almost a year. The part that feels really weird is that I'm 13 weeks along now and it feels funny to feel them where I know the new baby can't reach yet! Thank you!

my explanation to this is:
when your baby does start to kick, they kick your uterine muscles which then hit againsts your abdominal muscles causing a vibration...our brains know this is our baby kicking...after youve had your baby you may feel these muscle spasm type feelings...I think this is because our brains have regstered that this feeling is just like a baby kicking...could be gas or just pure muscle spasm, but it causes that vibration, send the signal to the brain and therefore the brain thinks its a baby kicking (well it tries to tell us this).
comprehende?

My youngest is nearly 16 months now and I still think I can feel kicking sometimes when I'm in bed at night. It's mad! I think it's similar to amputees feeling an itch in a long gone limb :-(

I am still getting phantom kicks and Damian is 9 months old. I thought I was the only one with this issue! I took a test last weekend and mine came back negative. It is weird when you are laying in bed, your already born baby sound asleep in the other room and it feels like they are still kicking you!

they are just muscle spasms I was told by my doc after thinking I was pregnanct again. If you lie still and feel it with your hand you can also feel your belly move..sometimes I can actually see my belly twitching.

I think now that we KNOW what a baby kick feels like and none of us want another quiet just yet ( i had my daughter 5 months ago) that i find myself afraid that i am always pregnant since i feel the "kicks". It's weird feeling it still and I thought i was crazy and so did my husband.... until now! lol

I've gotten phantom kicks after pregnancy too! A lot more recently. i got my period back when my daughter was 10 months old then haven't had anything since then. She is now 13.5 months old! I was beginning to get fairly concerned that i was pregnant again even tho i am on the mini pill. I decided to get a test and took it this morning and it was negative! That was a relief but wouldn't have been too bad if i was i'm sure. I was sure i wasn't pregnant as i didn't feel pregnant but thought maybe this time round it would be different. Was pretty worried that i was already like 3 months pregnant and didn't know it. Nice not having a period as i am breastfeeding still. Thinking about weaning soon, keep putting it off much like getting a test done! lol

My daughter is 5 months old and I still have the kicking feeling... I was getting ready to take a pregnancy test too !!! Sometimes I think its just normal tummy movements that before baby you would have ignored... but now its just a nice reminder of being pregnant and our nastalgic minds go straight to baby land !!!

Oh! Well that's something new to me. I didn't realize it took that long for our uteruses to go back to "regular" size. I thought it was a lot sooner. Thanks for your responses.

I think Alison is right....your uterus is still moving. It takes about a year for this to happen for some....the IUD might have something to do with the bleedign and cramping. When I was on the shot...i bled at random times and had cramping...after 6 months...it adjusted....it might be your body making adjustments to the medication.

could also be the uterus shrinking back down to size.
