Post-partum weight loss: Help!!!

I gained roughly 30 pounds during my pregnancy. After giving birth, I lost about 20 pounds in all. I was breastfeeding exclusively, and I was shedding pounds and slimming down even though my eating habits weren't the healthiest. I've never had healthy eating habits. During the first month or two, after giving birth, I was eating chocolate practically everyday, ate very big portions (I was very hungry too) and some of my meals were very rich.

Now here's the big problem: I stopped breastfeeding after about 2 months and I gained all the weight back. I'm being even more conscious than when I was breastfeeding, but I still gained all the weight back!

I'm not sure what to do now. I've never been the type to lose weight easily.

What have your experiences been with post-partum weight loss, and what did you do? Is there anything in your diet that you were able to replace by a healthier alternative?

Good question. Well I guess my situation is similar. I only gained 5 lbs during my pregnancy but at my 6 week postpartum I was 10 lbs heavier so i must have gained weight. I've been breastfeeding the whole time and it doesn't seem to do jack.

Now-- i'm on a hardcore weight loss plan.
Weeks 1-3 I did step aerobics at home, walked 3+ miles in the park with lo and did other miscellaneous exercises. This week I started P90X (it's the devil) but I don't doubt i'll see results.
Foodwise I cut out beef, pork, most carbs and sugars. We eat chicken, fish, seafood, and turkey. More veggies and fruits 4 bottles of water per day no sodas and juices only in my fruit smoothies. Bread and pasta has been switched to multigrain. I have one dessert a week 300 calories or less. In those 3 weeks i've lost 7lbs. yea it kinda stinks I would love to see faster results but remember this, you lose it quick you gain it back and more faster so i'm trying to make lifestyle changes.

You prob don't need to make such hardcore changes, I have a serious problem losing weight and take prescription meds to control my insulin levels and blood sugar. Just try making small changes here and there to see what works for you and maybe find a way to exercise with your lo 3 times a week. You can walk in the park, or in the mall and with the added weight of a stroller you're getting a little extra.

Good Luck.

I didn't actually gain any weight during pregnancy so to speak as I lost a stone then gained a stone at the end of my pregnancy. However, I gained a stone after birth basically through lack of exercise and because I hadn't been restarted on my medication to control my blood sugar. I've just been doing at least 30 mins per day on Wii fit and I've tried to cut down on the naughty things!

For me, we eat healthy and I exercise so it wasn't tough. My sister had some issues but she used a meal replacement / vitamin shake called shakeology and she shed the pounds easily. My dad's a diabetic and uses the same shake - he was always overweight but now is at a healthy weight. My husband uses it too now and has been loosing weight healthily. It doesn't work like overnight, but you definately notice the difference and it's whole-food, healthy, and the company gives you a personal online coach to help you stick to your weightloss plan.

I gained 24lbs this pregnancy and ended up 8 lbs over my prepregnancy weight. I still have four lbs from my first baby so i needed to lose 12 in all. I lost two doing nothing haha but that was it. So now ive been watching my caloric intake. My hubby showed me a website called and you can put in your information and it will tell you approximately how many calories you can have each day. Ive lost 3-4 lbs in two weeks by sticking to my calories, but i have to say it can be tough. I fell off the wagon this weekend so i have some work to do. I have very little time to exercise and i love to walk but we have been having 100 degree days for a long time where i live so its just not possible. Good luck to you!

I am the same way you are. I just had my 3rd son 14 weeks ago. Fortunatley I gained 27lbs and have lost 23 lbs. But I am still holding on to about 50 lbs from my first 2 boys, my oldest is 6. It is very hard. I love chocolate to, its my weakness. So lately I have been trying to be better at cooking at home, working out to my wii 15 min. a day, and walking the neighborhood. Small things can make a difference, It has for me. I never breatfed, so weight loss is more of a struggle I think. Just start out with some small goals and keep on top of it. It will pay off. I now do slimfast for breakfast, and try to do more fruit and veggies. Good luck!!!

I just got my wake-up call this morning: my maternity pants, which were very loose a month after giving birth, are now very fitted. If a gain one more pound they'll be too tight!!! When it comes to losing weight, I'd like to rely on the Buddy system, where I can get support from other people who are going through the same thing. With other people, I sometimes feel attacked or misunderstood. For some people, losing weight and control is easy, and for others, it's harder...

I gained 55 lbs during pregnancy! My son is 7 months old and I still have about 10 lbs to lose so I have been running at least a mile and a half a day. My diet is pretty healthy. I like to eat oatmeal and a banana for breakfast. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch with a yogurt and then for dinner my husband usually grills chicken and we'll have rice with that. Good luck!

I only gained 16 pounds during my pregnancy and walked out of the hospital about 5 pounds heavier than prepregnancy. I got back into my normal jeans within 2 months after but then it went down hill from there. I have breastfed my daughter the whole first year and that did nothing to help. I am now about 15 pounds heavier because of a short bout of depression. I look like i'm 7 or 8 months pregnant now and have been asked several times if I am. Nothing gives you the baby blues worse than everyone thinking your pregnant and your not. I've been walking a lot lately and hoping that will help but I'm having a hard time cutting out the junk food because I'm craving sweets. Don't know what to do but try to be more strict with my self and keep walking!

Hmm, maybe I should walk more. I go for walks with my daughter for at least an hour, but I make stops in stores too. I have to admit that carrying my daughter in the carrier is quite heavy! :O
I found something on the Genuine Health website, the 45-day Transirmation Program. I feel like giving it a try.

I have to admit that my guilty pleasure is pastries, whether it be cake, cookies, and even cookie dough! Gosh, it's so hard...

walk it off ;-) That's what I did, everyday I would go out for a couple of hours (1hre in morning and 1hre in afternoon) and pretty much cut sweets (except for my one latte a day rule!) and after a year, I was back in all my pre-pregnancy pants! yay!
