Hello all! My three month old has a red, bumpy rash on the side of his face between his cheek and ear. He had a little cradle cap issue on his forehead that is still hanging around a little bit, but this rash hasn't always been there like that, and it is also bright red at times. It doesn't seem to bother him at all - he doesn't seem to want to scratch it and he's had no fever or other symptoms. Can babies get cradle cap on their faces, and when they're this old? Has anyone else had this kind of issue? How worried should I be? Any help would be appreciated.

My daughter had something similar for the first 3 months of her life. It turned out she was allergic to laundry detergent. I had to start washing the whole families clothes in Dreft and all the sheets. Even now when people outside the home hold her she gets it from rubbing her face on their clothes.

i have a 7 month old baby girl, and she had the same thing as well on both sides, but i thought it was because i got her ears pierced and i thought maybe when she was sleeping her ear would fold over and leave a rash on the side of her cheek. so i dont know what it could be :S

Thank you so much for responding, everyone! It's nice to hear that this problem is so common! I bought some cortizone cream, and after using it for one day, his rash is still raised but no longer red. If it doesn't clear up by tomorrow, I'll call the doctor just to see if she wants to take a look!

My daughter has excema (very mild) and it looks just like you are describing. It comes and goes. I just put a little excema cream on it and it goes away. Also, if they are damp or wet like from drool it can cause irritation similar to diaper rash. For that just use diaper rash cream or cortizone. My pediatrician recommended both as my daughter has that issue as well.

Sometimes if a baby is teething they can get a rash on their cheeks, might be the first signs of your little one teething.

Hey Jennifer.
The rash sounds pretty normal, my daughter had the same thing around 6 weeks and it was milk spots, it got really bad at some point and i thought she was sick so i called my midwife. A really good thing i found to use on cradle cap is almond oil, you just rub it into the cap, leave it there till the next bath and it just comes off! You can even use a light brush or an old tooth bright and lightly get it off like that. My daughter had bad cradle cap in her eye brows, it got the the point where it was weeping and even bleeding a little. I hope this helps

We just went through that with our son. He had the exact same rash in the exact same place. He also had two dry spots on his forehead. We started using an over the counter cream called "Spectro Exzema Care". We showed it to our pediatrician and he said it was safe for our baby. Alot of babies get rashes and baby exzema/acne, and it usually goes away. We used the cream about 3 times a day, to keep his skin moisturized and avoid any scarring.

Good luck!!

You shouldn't be too worried because a lot of babies get baby acne and it should clear up within the couple of weeks. my baby's doctor prescribed me some 1%anti itching cream and it cleared her face and body up very quickly. Just contact your baby's doctor and they will tell you what you should do:-) Good luck.
