I was induced for my first child and went through nine hours of active labor...I was fine with the labor without an epideral.. but when I started pushing my family members said I started to tear and when my obgyn came in she (description from my husband who saw everything) took the scissors and the entire lenght of them cut me and my baby came flying out,..literally. I had over 20 stitches and it took her about an hour to stitch me and then I couldn't sit for weeks. I am wondering if it will rip back open when I have another????

I was told that generally if you have been stitched it is likely that you may need an episiotomy next time around because the scar tissue doesn't stretch very well. I had a 2nd degree tear which needed stitches but my vagine doesn't seem any tighter or slacker. It all depends though because with my sister my mam needed stitches and with me she didn't.

I had to have stitches after my second son was born. The doctor informed me I tore because he came too quickly and my body wasn't ready for him. I didn't even know until she was stitching me up and failed to mention she was doing so. I had to finally ask what was going on.
But as far as the stitches themselves go, they're gone already. They use stitches that disinegrate with time, when the skin heals, like the stitches used at a c-section, which I also had.
I would talk to your doctor because they can give you an episiotomy ahead of time to prevent you from tearing or there might be another route. I had a c-section with my third child so I'm not sure how birth goes but good luck.

Like someone else mentioned, be sure to talk with your doctor about your fear. I'm just guessing (because I'm not a medical professional), but he/she might recommend exercises to help you keep that area fit so that it will stretch better next time, but more importantly, your doctor will have a good understanding of how stitches react to birthing the second time around and will be able to tell you what to expect. If it makes you more comfortable, even get a second opinion.
Remember, though, that having a baby is not just giving birth -- that part is short. Having a baby is bringing a person into the world who will then live and grow, and bring you both challenges, love and joy for (God willing) the rest of your life. Being afraid of the birthing process must be difficult to overcome, but remind yourself that it's only one part of motherhood, and the rest should be much less (physically) painful!

I think you learn the hard way when it's your first time. Now that you are aware of what could happen you can speak up & get advice on how to prevent this. My 2nd child was almost 10 pounds & my other two were close to 9 pounds. I did not tare/rip or need any stitches with any of them. One of the things my doctor made sure of each time was that I didn't start pushing until I was a 10cm. I really listened to my body & it sounds cheesy but your body knows what it's doing. It's meant to have babies :) I can't imagine how bad your pain must have been if you afraid to have another baby. I had no pain meds for my last one & it hurt like none other but I still want one more. It's all worth it. Good luck to you, try to think of how wonderful it will be to have another perfect little blessing to call your own

My first birth I had to be cut also because my daughter was too big. But my other two daughters I didn't have to be cut. Every birth is different but I don't think this fear should keep you from having another baby. If the doctor would have to cut you I would think they would cut over the same area.

My dr said that it should just stretch out since u have gave birth once already. I am worried about it because i tore completely they didnt bother cutting me and i am due with my second next month and my first son just turned 1.

they did that to me aswell. with your next baby they will probably cut on the same spot again and not let you tear.
