I have been trying to find a bottle that works well with my son. He's 8 weeks old and is formula fed. He has alot of gas and spits up alot. I've tried a few different types of bottles where some are okay. Any thoughts on which ones are better then others? Thanks.

No matter what, you have to do research on what is in the bottles. There are few bottles out there that don't contain Bisphenol A. This is a carcinogen that is found in plastics. Glass bottles are great because they obviously don't contain this chemical, but if you're going to use plastic, use NUBY. They are the only ones that I have found that don't have the BPA. They are a little pricier, ($18/bottle here in Australia), but hey, I'll pay anything to keep my kids safe. Don't be fooled by the bottles that advertise that they're good for 'wind' and 'gas', ALL babies have that! I'd rather be safe now, and reduce the chances of my child getting cancer later on in life...

I love the born free bottles. My son is 9 weeks, had tons of gas and we switched his formula and bottles and he does great now. Every once in a while if I use an Avent bottle he has horrible gas afterwards.

For my little one I first tried the playtex advance air ones and they leaked all the time and it was very hard for my newborn to drink nipples were either too slow or too fast so I tried NUK and abosultely LOVE them. As for your baby spitting back up it could be a mixture of the bottle and the formula. I found that once I found a bottle I really liked it was the formula in the end that was the problem. Try switching the formual in a bottle you already have and see what happenes.. Each baby have their own preferences to both bottle and formula. And to what type of formula. Good luck finding a bottle that you like best. It was a challenge.

with my experience AVENT bottles are the best. nipples are soft and follow the contour of a real breast.

spitting up is normal, its just that you need to burp your baby every after feeding. don't give too much of what the baby can tolerate. you may thought that your baby needs more milk, but the fact is your baby just want to pacify her oral needs. a pacifier is recommended.

for gas pain, constant burping is important. be sure that the nipple is filled with milk whenever the baby sucks the nipple.another suggestion is that, there are traditional oil that you can buy in asian drugstores which can relieve gas pains.

Try the MAM bottles for colic babies. My daughter was really gasey and spit up alot as well. This bottle is made just for that, reduces gas and baby takes to the nipple great as well!!

Since I literary tried every bottle out there. I will have to say Avent is the best.... I only formula feed now and she is on Nutramigen because of her gas (she has a protein allergy to cows milk) I see a lot of comment for Dr Browns, sorry but those are way over priced and rated. They leak so bad after a month. The Ventair were OK but she sucked fast so the flow was to much for her. All and all she has Avent and it works great.. (just don't by the gold packaging... they leak)

I have found that the playtex bottles with the liners are the best. I breast feed my daughetr till she was about 8months and then switched to formula and those are the bottles that I found the best. She didnt get that must gas and doesnt spit up at all.

We use the cheapy Evenflo bottles and they have been great. We started with Avent and tried Dr. Browns but they didn't do anything different for my son than the Evenflo did. I'm sure you're doing all of the normal stuff like keeping him upright for 10 minutes after each feeding and burping every couple of ounces.... :)

My son had the same problem, AVENT bottles are by far the best out there.
We also had to change formula, we had to go from semilac to Good Start (Nestle).
The AVENT bottles with the Good Start formula worked like magic.
Good luck!

I've used two types for my son who also had a lot of gas and spit up. The Playtex Drop In's worked very well because you could push the air out. I had to switch his formula to Enfamil Gentle ease because there was too much iron in the regular formula for him. I tried the Playtex Advanced Vent Air and that took care of the problem. I also had to add rice to his bottle because the problem was also reflux and the rice thickened up the formula so it wouldn't come back up on him. Your pediatrician can recommend the best options for you and your baby.

My son was also formula fed and had acid relflux, was on medication for the acid until he was 4 months old. They're expensive but Dr. Browns bottles were wonderful. He didn't spit up but maybe 15 times the whole first year and helped reduce gas. These bottles are a little high maintenance but they are definitely worth it. My mother-in-law bought a couple of plain bottles by Gerber and my son spit up for almost an hour from it. I recommend the Dr. Browns very highly!

What bottles have you been using, flow rate? Is your son one that drinks the entire 8oz. while his suck-swallow-breathe rate is all out of sync? I would recommend the Haberman Feeder and swap out the bottom for a larger Medula base. It allows you to know definatively your baby isn't getting air you can manipulate the flow of milk and this will help or eliminate the gas and spitting up...

The best bottle by far is MAM Anti Colic bottles. They are easier to clean and put together than Playtex Vent-Air and they are less expensive than many of the other brands. MAM also has a wonderful line of pacifiers, sippy cups, teething rings (one has a clip that clips to the babies clothes like a pacifier clip), and tooth brushes. And they have the best Facebook fan page. They give away samples and prizes on the FB page all the time. Not to mention awesome customer service. They really care about their customers. You can go to the FB page.......http://www.facebook.com/#!/MAMbabyUSA.......or their website to learn more.....http://www.mambaby.com/?websiteLang=us

I made the mistake of using the Playtex drop ins. I would never suggest these to anyone. They worked for my sons tummy issues but, if I had known about the MAM sooner I would have never bothered with the Playtex bottles. It is such a pain to deal with the liners. They are a pain to get the right amount of liquid into because the marks on the liners and the marks on the bottles never match up. Not to mention that you have to continually pay for more liners.

Definately try Tommee Tippee and buy anti-colic teets. Even if he doesnt have colic it stlops them getting as much wind. My son belches luke his Dad but at least the teets help him bring it up naturally.

Also the teets are quite big so he will love them if you breastfed at one point.

Dr. Browns are the best! I really didn't find them to be very expensive at all. You can get them at Walmart and Target as well as BRU. It seriously only took 30 seconds more to clean them. I never use the dishwasher, but soak them in hot soapy water then they clean up fast.

Tommy tippy bottles for sensitive tummys. They reduced my son's spitup by 80%. Babies r us gas them. They have an interior air release and temperature sensor too. Best by far and had tried avent, Playtex ventaire, first years breast flow, bornfree, and nuk.

Gerber bottles (don't over tighten or they don't vent properly).
You may need a different formula or faster nipple. My little guy is lactose intolerant and once we changed it was night and day. He was belching and farting (i thought it was my husband) and drawing knees up at times and spitting up... his poop was liquidy too. We also used playtex bottles. For venting i prefered the gerber though. good luck

I highly recommed Milk Bank. They are sold at Babies R Us and Target.com. My daughter would be up for hours screaming at the top of her lungs because of the bad gas that she had. We found these bottles and in conjuction with adding 2 drops of infant gas relief (mylicon or generic), her tummy has been much better ever since.

Your baby is still young thus i'll recommend Dr.Brown bottles at first till about 3 or 4 months then its your preference because they get to a stage where they don't get to much winds from drinking milk thus any kind of bottle would work i used NUK & MAM bottles they helped my son with learning to hold the bottle and feed himself....

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but "Green To Grow" bottles are great! Anyone who has had problems before, have switched and baby does very well with this bottle. My daughter uses them (I pump when I work 2x/wk), and has taken the bottle since 5 weeks old. Good luck!

Glass bottles, but if he's spitting up every time you feed him try switching his formula. It could be the formula thats making him spit up not the bottle.

Playtex drop-ins The liners are a lil pricey so I go to wal mart and get the "parents choice" brand for a lot cheaper. (I actually prefer the "parents choice" brand better anyways)

I tried NUK, Avent, Dr. Browns, and Born Free...but I n oticed less gas with the drop ins.

We like the playtex ones with the disposable liners. My son was always really gassy and spit up often, but he got less air with the disposable liners. Make sure you burp him a few times during the bottle. It passes with time.

I love playtex drop in bottles. You do have to buy the liners a few times a month but they are pretty cheap. To get the air out use a rolled up magazine and push the air out it works great,.

when i switched from bf to bottles i went with the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles, they r very similiar in size and shape to a breast and the teat mimics a nipple, it also has an anti colic valve to stop them sucking air, and its bpa free so safe for baby. Maybe you could try switching formula as well he may be reacting a little to an ingredient in the one u r currently using.
