Serious Separation Anxiety

My son does it to his father, who works 2 jobs and is barely home so when he is he clings. I think he doesn't with me becasue from the day he came home I would put him in his swing while I was cleaning the house and other stuf. Maybe if you let him cry for a few times a day, for a few days while you did whatever you need to get done (i know it's not easy!!) maybe he will realise mommy isn't going anywhere. If I hear Joshua starting to get anxious while he is watching t.v. i'll always yell into the other room, mommys right here bubs and he is fine

Hey Megan.
This is completely normal .. It's just a stage and it will pass.. he just wants to make sure that he is being noticed thats all.. I went through the exact same thing when my daughter was that age.. my advice would be to not ignore him but try not to pick him up everytime he wants up.. try talking to him while you are trying to do whatever it is you are doing. keep him occupied when you need to get stuff done.. have an extra toy that he only gets to play with when mommy needs to do stuff, jolly jumpers, excersaucers are great to occupy them for a short while...let him know that you will be right back when you need to leave a room, but don't worry too too much because this will pass. You just have to wait for this phase to pass. hope this was somewhat helpful. Take care.

Does it getting worse before it gets better?? I feel like its getting worse. Should I keep picking him up or should I just keep trying to talk to him??

Honestly this is all perfectly normal and is a stage. You need to teach him that just because he isn't touching you doesn't mean he is in danger. Play peek-a-poo, leave the room but keep talking to him and looking in often so he can see you, reassure him you aren't going to leave him. He will out grow it as he learns to move around more but you don't really want the habit of him hopping up in arms everytime he is upset.. he is getting big fast.

maybe u shoud get a baby carrier, the one u put on and the baby's back is against ur stomach, that way u can still do stuff and have him with u so he doesnt freak out (:

My son does the exact same thing! Though he is only six months he freaks out if Im not within his eyesight. Im trying to do the "cry it out" method but I can only take so much of that. Tonight he was being that way and I decided to take him to my husbands work and let him see his dad and be around people. I wish I knew of other things to do when this happens! If you get any good tips, please let me in on them!!
