I was told the other day by another mom that he premie daughter wasnt sitting up by herself so she started using the bumbo more often and it helped her strengthen her muscles.
My son, he is 6months and isnt sitting up unsupported and doesnt seem to be too interested in it either. I think he wants to be on the floor on his tummy or up on his hands and knees rocking more. I dont think the seat would cause him to be lazy so ive been giving him more time in it the past 2 weeks or so. He's already trying to get out of it by twisting and arching his back but he can't no matter how hard he tries. I also sit him up on the couch with a blanket across his belly, tucked in on both sides to help support him a little to get his core strong.

My son only used the bumbo a couple times, and only lasted a few minutes in it before wanting to come out. He always looked uncomfortable. I do think it depends on the baby though. I know of a lot of people who loved having one! It just wasn't for my son I guess.

Love the Bumbo!!! Even when they can and do sit up for themselves, if you buy the attachable tray it's the easiest way to have a portable high chair. We bring it with us whenever we get invited over to dinner somewhere and use it to feed our 7 month old in!

Also the serious head injury recall was for: If the seat is placed on a table, countertop, chair, or other elevated surface, young children can arch their backs, flip out of the Bumbo seat, and falling onto the floor. Essentially, use common sense and not place the seat on an elevated or soft surface. The Bumbo was required to add new safty labels to their product. Its completely safe just use the obvious safety measures and not leave your child unattended.

We got a bebePod Plus and its amazing..its similar to a bumbo but a little more higher end. It comes with a tray that a sassy toy fits into and couple of tray covers. My little one loves it and its giving her that little support she still needs. I can't wait for her to be older and it becomes her "chair". Well worth the investment!!!

Actually you may want to reconsider ever buying one- there was just a recall on the product. They have been found to be unsafe and not supportive enough. I would not recommend them. After all, we never had one and we all learned to sit up didn't we?

didnt like the bumbo for the cost my son used it for about 2 months but didnt like it when i put him in it.. then he started leaning and moving in it and tipping out the side.. not cool... not worth the money for the short time frame i would think... i thought it was a bit dangerous...

Yes - we love ours, my little guy was able to be in it from 3 mos & he's sitting on his own with no issues (he's 7 mos now). I use it now by the door when I'm getting ready to leave, plop him in it & put on his shoes, coat etc - makes getting ready a breeze!

well i bought one (but i shopped around and didn't pay full price) and to be honest my daughter has never really liked it for very long she will sit in it for a chnag of scenery if i'm hanging the washing or something and she's a bit moany, it distracts hers, but after about 5 mins she trys to get out, and now she's nearly 7 months and pretty much sitting up on her own.

personally I would say get one if you ca get it a bit cheaper (ebay maybe) it comes in handy, but i hear a lot about kids not liking them so much ike my daughter, and then if you have paid full whack, thats harsh !

good luck

my girl has been in the bumbo seat since she was bout 8 weeks old...to be honest i think it has helped her to sit up more...she is only 12 weeks on friday and cn actually now sit up on her own...its one of the best things that we have brought becuase she can just sit in it..even on the kitchen worktops and watch me do the dishes/ house work...shes fascinated to be able to look around whilst she is in it...she loves it. i also brought mine second hand cos i ws undecided at first too!

I was hesitant to get a bumbo at first for my twin sons. After my husband and I got them, i noticed a huge improvement in my sons upper body strength. the only problem i have is that they are trying to reach to far and they might fall. it does help but if your baby is doing well with sitting supported it may not be something you want. hope this helps :)

it does help! i started putting my son in it just before he could lift his head properaly (throws up a lot so it'd sit him in it when i had to change his bed covers) he started sitting up unsupported a week before he turned 6months old (turned 6months 28th july) and i think the bumbo might have helped him learn to sit up early ..

it stays in my bedroom .. so i sit him in it when i'm feeding him breakfast and when he goes to other peoples houses .. makes a great portable high (well low) chair .. wish i got the tray though.

however the only problem is that now he can climb out of it .. i know someone whos daughter is 8months and she attempts to but cant climb out of it .. got mine from babys r us for £29.99

We have one (actually a BebePod, which is similar but has a removable tray) and my daughter and I both love it! She adores the toy that came along with it, and it helps her to sit up and stay out of trouble when I'm folding laundry or cleaning. I haven't tried feeding her in it yet, but I'm sure that will come soon. And my mother-in-law also has one for my niece, who is 3 and very petite, and she still uses hers as a booster seat! My niece had trouble sitting up as an infant, and the BebePod really helped her to strengthen her neck and back.

i do not suggest getting a bumbo! we bought my daughter one when she was 3 months old and by the time she was 4 months old she was getting out of it but rolling over the side when she tried to grab toys. we stopped using it and by the time she was 4 1/2 months she was sitting on her own. it is def not woth the $40!

I must also say that every baby is different...I saw some mothers say they hatedit cause their kids didn't like it. That is a possibility but I just know Jayden loved it and so I think it was well worth it. I noticed other mothers say that it doesn't help them learn to sit up at all.....well I don't think it is ment to "teach" them to sit up at all.....It is just a nice chair that helps them sit up before they can do it on their own.

I liked it because I felt it made Jayden a part of everything instead of being left out in his stroller. It is easily cleaned so it is nice for those messy foods and snacks. I also liked it because I could sit on the floor with him and play with him with toys and he could see me and interact with me much better than he could when he was proped up by pillows.

I have never heard anyone say anything bad about a bumbo or say they didn't like the bumbo untill I saw this thread. Anyway I still feel it is a great thing to have and def think everyone should at least try one!

I had never heard of bumbo chairs before untill I saw a pic of one of my friends babies sitting in one. She was from England and I asked her about the chair. I looked everywhere and had a hard time finding one but it was so wort it. Jayden was almost at the age where he would be sitting on his own as well. He loved the chair and would sit in it and play....you can also get a tray that fits over it so they can eat in it as well.

It never made Jayden lazy at all...I think it showed him how fun it was to be able to sit up....My little guy is rather large and didn't get to use it to much but I am saving it for my next child. I can't say enough good things about it and I think every mom should have one! lol

Yes! Get one! They are awesome things! My daughter is now 15 months, and we still use it, as it 'lives' at my grandparents place - a home we frequently visit around meal times.

Bumbo's are a lot easier to transport than a high chair too, if you have a short (or long) distance to travel.

Definitely a worthwhile investment. We didn't get a tray with ours, as we just pull our daughter up to the table after sitting her in the Bumbo on a chair.

I wouldn't, I didnt get it for my son, I honestly dont think its nessicary. I mean yes its helpful so you dont have to worry about them falling however the point of your child learing to sit up is to teach them to use them muscles. THe bumpo in my oppinion would delay that. Its just as easy to use pillows and prop them up. I don't know I mean I feel its useful but not for what its originally intended for, I don't believe it helps them learn to sit up on their own I just feel that it helps to sit them up so you dont have to worry about them falling. so my answer is NO don't get it. My son didn't didnt use it and he sat up just fine at 5 1/2 months.

Totally worth it. We keep ours in the car for visits to grandparents and friends that way when it is time to eat no matter where you are highchair or not you can use the bumbo seat. My daughter is 1 and has been sitting up since about 4 months, but it does come in handy.

I think mine was great! My daughter started sitting in hers and would eat in it while she was too small for her highchair. The tray was great for her to play or start feeding herself. We used it when we traveled and now she is 15 months and we use it as a booster seat so she can sit at the table with us. My one suggestion would be to try and find one used...it is one of those things that is fine second hand

I was given a bumbo and it was fantastic - max now almost 9 months old and well and truly sitting up on his own but the bumbo added a whole new dimension to his development - when he first sat in it he couldn't stop looking around - suddenly the world looked different to sitting on mum's lap - it is so much more that just a seat - you can buy the tray and it becomes their first high chair - just don't leave them unattended if you place the bumbo on a dining chair(not safe). Max loved his and will be lending it to his cousin to be when he/she comes along

We have a bumbo. Our daughter is now almost10 months and we still use it. At first it was great to help her sit up. I'd put it on the table when i was in the kitchen and she could see what i was doing. She loved it. Its great as a portable highchair type thing. Its so light and easy to clean. There also great for there backs and learning how to properly sit up. I used mine often and my daughter never got lazy. She was crawling by 6 months and walking at 9 months.

Bumbo's are awsome. Our son has reflux problems and it helps him with that. He is now six months old and still does everything himself. Or tries really hard if he can't do something. They are also perfect for feeding time.

Just let him do it in his own time. I got a Bumbo for my shower, my daughter hates it. She has been wanting to sit up since birth, really no joke. So I figured she would love this seat it will help her. Nope she fusses and arches her back, she twists and turns and practically falls out of it. I tried to use it to feed her she won't eat in that thing. I had to get the highchair seat out, was hoping to postpone getting that out!! So I wish I wouldn't have received it and had gotten something else!!

I have been using the bumbo since my daughter was about 4 and a half months old(she's now 10 months) and absolutely love it! Before she could sit in a high chair I would feed her in it and stick it on the table while we were eating so she could join us for dinner.
