My baby has been on excuslivel rice cereal (and obviously his bottles )now for a little over 2 wks now and he is taking it very well with the spoon and has had no reaction to it! I want to start him on a little bit of baby jar food...What my question is, is what foods did you introduce first and what times of the day? I know you have to stay on the same food for a few days to make sure there is no reaction. I've heard that if you start with fruit first it iwll be hard to get them to eat the veggies! Also did u mix a little rice cereal in with the foods or did you just do straight baby food? Or did you mix just a little baby food in with the cereal ??

Try replacing the rice cereal in the morning and around noon with baby food. He is already use to getting some sort of nourishment from a spoon at that time...then add it in as you see fit.

I started my daughter on rice cereal 2 weeks ago, then avocado 3 days ago. I've also heard that it's best to do veggies first, and to wait 3 days between new foods, so next will be sweet potato. My daughter has the cereal in the morning about an hour after her first bottle and before she goes down for her morning nap, and the veggies at about 5pm before her bath and bedtime bottle. I give her the veggies on their own, but as I introduce fruit I will mix with her cereal in the morning.
I'm doing my own purees so I don't know much about the jarred stuff, but I will say it's best to offer the food AFTER the bottle. Even though he's now eating solids, he still relies on the formula for most of his nutritional needs. You don't want to replace a bottle-feed with a solids-feed, or fill him up so he can't finish his daily requirement of formula.
Good luck with it. It's exciting watching their faces as they try new things :)

i agree thats why i give my son his bottles first since he gets all his nutritional needs from it.

i didnt use rice cereal much as it causes constipation and tastes terrible i started mine on pureed fruits and vegies first ones being sweet potato, mashed banana, butter nut pumpkin, apple and pear then moved onto brocolli carot and berries as those ones are a little harder to digest. i was told by her dietitian to offer solids before every milk feed and allow 30 minutes for eating. so do brekky lunch time and tea time and before bed if its to help him sleep longer

i just gave it to my son straight. ended up with spare baby rice so started mixing them together to give the rice flavour and use it up. i only bought jars so he could try flavours .. recently i've started making my own purees. he still has things like cow and gate baby breakfast though. i've made him sweet potato .. carrot pear and apple .. only tried the 1st 2 yet though.

It was recomended to me by several ppl, that u introduce yellow vegtables first. then green vegtables, then fruit. But remeber they still may need a bottle afterwards because they are just practicing eating so dont expect them to get full. i recomend trying it after the first morning nap.

My daughter started when she was almost six months and I tried the rice cereal first. She loved it until I started feeding her fruits. Then she refused to eat anything but the fruit food! So if your baby might have a little of the same reaction, they'll go for what tastes good to them! And she also doesn't like the veggies but she'll eat them without too much complaint.

Hey Michelle...I recently had the same delimma with my son Brayden who is just over 3 months. He had rice cereal for two weeks and once he consistently ate it well from a spoon we started baby food. I started him with peaches, so it was something sweet to start with and adjust too...then we moved to peas, bananas, carrots, and now on pears. Next he will get squash. I have tried to go back and forth bw fruits and veggies so he getrs use to both. Once he gets through all the flavors and we know there is no reaction, we will start adding some of the fruits to rice cereal at lunch time. Currently, his feeding schedule is as follows: Morning (bw 7-8 when he wakes up) 8oz bottle, formula only....next 3 feedings 6oz bottle formula only with 1/3 to 1/2 bottle of baby food (he started with just a 3rd though) and last bottle before bed (bw 8:30 and 9) 8oz 3/4 formula, 1/3 rice....sleeps 10-12 hours a night and has since we started this. We always give him his bottle first since he is so young and his pedi doesnt know he is on solids. We will adjust per pedi at his 4 months check up on 7/13.

I started a veggie first with the rice cereal ( i mixed it with the cereal and then gave it a little bit by itself). I didnt want to do fruit first and him reject veggies. I did about 2 teaspoons twice a day mixed with his rice cereal. Start with Stage 1 foods. I did each veggie for 3 days to make sure he has no allergic reactions.

Hope this helps!! Good luck!!

I started Brayden first with Sweet potato's then carrots, then went on to green beans, peas, and now im starting with fruits. Hes done real good with all of them so far. He didnt care to much for the peas tho. I mix a little bit of cereal with it. I give him a half a jar around noon and then the other half around 8. It helps out a lot with him sleeping a lot more at night now.

Thats what  I thought because i dont want him to get used to the fruits and not eat the veggies.... I only wanna try a little to start out as being  first time mommy I dont wanna mess him up...Did you wait like 3 days with each food? I heard that was the norm?
