Does anyone know when it is safe to use sunscreen on your baby? Mine is 3 1/2 months old. And also , when is it safe for them to be in a pool (with chlorine )?

most of the infant sunscreen bottles say 6 months or older, but I put it on my son at 5 months and he was fine...I guess it depends on skin sensitivity...but as far as the chlorine goes...at 4 months I put my son in the pool with me at the gym and he did fine...again I think it's more about skin sensitivity....I found that he tolerates the pool far more when he has had a really good nap and full tummy....the pool really wears the little ones out pretty fast.

My daughter is 7 months and my dermatologist said I could start putting sunscreen on her at 4 months at my last visit. I don't know about the pool thing but if the weather had been better on our vacation last weekend she would have been in the pool as well. I use the Aveno baby 55 spf sunscreen, it's in a tan bottle with a purple cap.

My doctor said absolutely no sunscreen until 6 months. My next door neighbor has a friend whose Mom had good intentions and slathered a 3 month in sunscreen. Had to be rushed to ER and was in hospital for a week. Check with your doctor! If you want to take your baby swimming prior to 6 months, they make a cute baby raft. Its a circlular float with the diaper sling to hold them in and it has a shade tent over it. I got it at Babys Rr Us. I also bought a little tent with a padded mattress for the beach or poolside.

It depends on the ingredients in the sunscreeen. read the label to see what age it is recommended for. Our local swimming pool has a diaper dive program that starts at 6 months of age. Hope that helps.
