What type of sunscreen do you use for your infant? My daughter is 4 months and I'm trying to decide what type to get. Can you just use an adult sunscreen that has a high spf? what's the difference between baby sunblock and adult sunblock? What type works best, spray or lotion?

My public health nurse told me that bum rash cream works. It has zinc in it that protects against the sun and its safe to put on baby. Just don't put it on their hands or feet, they shouldn't eat it! Hope this helps :)

Most doctors tell you not to use sunscreen on babies younger than 4 month. My son is almost 5 months and we went to a party at a friends house last month and it was outside and my doctor told me it was ok to use Aveeno Baby Sunscreen.

Avon makes one that starts out blue and then as it absorbs the color goes away. That way you can see if you've missed a spot. I ordered it, haven't used it yet since my baby is still too young for sunscreen...

I think baby's have sensitive skin so it's good to use the Sun lotions for sensitive skin for young baby's. I use the Nivea Baby Sun Lotion ultra 50+ and it works really well and it's also water resistant.

Thanks everyone! We went to the beach and my baby was completely happy sitting in her bumbo seat under a sun tent a bought, without baby sunscreen. I let her visit the water twice for about five minutes each time and I don’t see where she got any sun so I guess I did alright. I was worried that she wouldn’t like it because I kept her under the tent but the tent turned out to be great for everyone. I'm burnt thou . . . dumb parents, always concerned more about the babies then themselves . . . =) THANKS!

It's not six months anymore...they have changed it to 12 before you should put sunscreen on your baby. just keep her in the shade. If you want to try swimming limit ur time to like 10 min TOPS!!!

Wait until your baby is at least 6 months. Until then, keep her out of direct sunlight. When she is old enough for sunscreen, use a baby sunscreen because it's more gentle. I use Banana Boat baby sunscreen with SPF 50 for my son, and it works fine. I opted for the lotion instead of the spray in case the spray would get into his eyes or if he inhaled it...

Baby needs to be 6 months for sunscreen. You should get sunscreen made for babies. There will be less chemicals in it than adult version. Children and infants body temps. rise 3-5 times faster than ours, so think about that also. They have had little to no sun exposure so the burn will happen MUCH faster.

After 6 months, use something without a lot of chemicals. I've used a sunscreen from Badger and I've also used one from Alba.
