Hi to all mums...I just need reminding ~ when is it suitable to take baby swimming?
Should I wait until Charlie has had all his 3 sets of jabs?
Charlie is 4 + 1/2 months.
I won't be taking him to the any local swimming baths as there isn't any in Mauritius, but we do have our own pool and wonderful beaches. Now the weather is getting hotter each day it would be really cool to take him for a dip even if only for a little while...

I started taking for son to swimming lessons at 3 months and he loves it. I would suggest doing swiming lessons as the instructor also teaches the parents on what to do with the baby in the water. At 4 months babies start developing fears, so its good to start them before that so that fear doesnt happen.. Thats my opinion and what i have been told..

Also chlorine can be drying for their skin, so you may need to put some lotion on him afterwards.

You can take your baby swimming pretty early on - you don't have to wait for 6 months. We took our son swimming in a public pool at about two months and he loved it. Some research says that chlorine can cause respiratory problems in babies but I think you would need to be swimming a lot to have problems. Our son didn't like the beach so much b/c of the cold water.

I live on the coast of California and can't wait to take my baby to the beach for the first time. I plan on taking my little girl swimming at a pool as soon as she fits into her bathing suit which is size 6 months. I would have taken her already, she's almost 3 months, but I didn't want to spend money on a bathing suit. She got the one she has as a gift. I'd say go ahead and take him swimming in your pool. I'd wait on going to the beach though. It will be more enjoyable when he's starting to walk and can get his feet wet and play in the sand. Plus, at the beach, babies are more likely to be exposed to bacteria since there isn't any chlorine.
