I read in one post (and for the life of me I cannot find it) that explained that when a baby cries with the "n" sound they are hungry. There were other sounds and meanings as well, but I cannot remember them. Does anyone know them??

It's called the Dunstan Baby Language. neh is hungry. owh is sleepy. eairh is lower gas, ehh is upper gas and i can't remember what the fifth is. google Dunstan Baby Language. these are all pre-cry sounds. if they get to the full on whailing it is very difficult to understand it. You may also hear two sounds within a short time such as ehh then neh. burp then feed to get rid of the gas then give the feed to satisfy the hunger. hope this helps.

Quoting Kylie:

oh OK type dunstan baby language into youtube.com and there's lots of videos on this topic.

Thank you! I hadn't heard of this before. I looked it  up and I'm going to start trying to follow it. I showed it to my fiance and my cousin too so they can help. Now, we discuss her cries and all try to figure out what they are. I kind of knew, but didn't have confidence. I didn't know the hungry cry had an n in it. The uncomfortable cry is the cry that she usually makes when she just wants to be held but when something's wrong she makes facial expressions with it.

you saved me because I realized that all the times she cries and I can't figure out what it is, it's the low gas pain cry. Now I have to figure out how to fix that. i didn't know they have lower gas pain. I just thought when they have gas you burp them.

Again, thanks.

Neh - means "Im hungry", you have to look for the N sound.

Owh- means "I'm tired"

Eh- means "Burp Me"

Eairh- means "Lower wind pain", (do bicycle legs etc. to soothe)

Heh- means "I'm uncomfortable", eg. hot, cold, change me, clothes to tight.

i cant remember the ladies name who wrote the book but she was nicknames "the Australian baby whisperer" i think you can buy her tapes and books.
