My daughter is 3 weeks today and is on Good Start Formula. I feed her every 3 hours(if I don't she gets REALLY fussy), and she drinks 3-4 oz.. Im sure if she could she'd drink more! Is that normal or should I be concerned? She was only 5lbs 15oz when she was born, so she's not a big baby at all.

my son was 5 lb 13 oz when he was born, and i was told that i was feeding him too much, just about every time i go to the midwife. he was eating about the same, 3-4 oz every 2-3 hours during the day, every 3-4 hours at night. the midwife was amazed that he could eat that much. and when i told her that sometimes he wants to eat more after, she didnt believe me lol. the only problem that comes with "overfeeding" would be the spit up that comes along with it. but if the baby is gaining weight, then its just a laundry issue. let her eat as much as she wants... babies grow so much in the first few months that they need all the nutrients they can get.

Thank youu. Shes drinking 4oz almost every feeding, but last couple days shes been puking it up.. So I switched her Formula from Good Start(Easy to Digest) to Good Start Omega 3 & 6.. Hopefully the puking will stop, & she'll want to take more.

it sounds like your baby is right on track. she should tell you id she's full! and note that when she goes through a growth spurt she may take double her normal ounces! My son ate 6 oz in one feeding at his 10 day growth spurt. we were sure he would give it all back, but every other feeding was about 1 extra oz and after a couple days things went back to normal...

good luck!

My daughter was 5lbs 6 oz when she was born. She was a small baby too. My daughter's doctor gave me this equation to help me figure out if my daughter was drinking enough formula:

baby's weight in pounds X 2.5 = the amt of formula baby takes in a 24 hour period.

ex: 6lbs X 2.5 = 15oz in 24 hour period.

This is an estimate...a couple more or less is still ok...it's more of a guideline. Some babies eat every hour, or 2 hours or 3 hours...and then they start sleeping longer and having less bottles with more formula... but I found the equation to be on target with what my daughter was drinking until she started eating table food regularily. Now, at 16 months she drinks about 16 oz of milk a day.

Thats totally normal, eating every 3 hours is good and if she stops eating she's just full :)

At 3 weeks 3-4 oz seems good to me. My baby girl's pediatrician said the best way to judge how many oz she should be eating is take her weight and divide it by 2 and that's about how many oz she should be taking. I've never heard of that before, so I was kind of skeptical, but it has worked every single time!
