My son is almost 6 months old and has reflux really bad. He only sleeps for an hour at a time. But if he rolls over and is on his tummy he sleeps so well and for hours and wakes up happy. Is it o.k,. to let him sleep on his tummy now or should I wait?

now that he is 6 months old i assume he can roll over? if he can its perfectly safe to let him sleep on his tummy. as long as theres no big blankets or stuffed animals in his crib.

I'm sure your mother and grandmother slept on their tummies, and they're fine. If he's sleeping on his tummy on his own, and it helps him sleep better, I wouldn't worry about it. How are you going to stop him from rolling over? =P

My doctor said that if you have acid reflux that when a child sleeps on his tummy it stops it from coming back up. So, if your child can rollover on his on than don't worry about it. If he can't yet, I would recommend an Angel monitor. An angel monitor has a piece you put under the mattress that monitors your child's breathing. If your son was to not breathe for a minute an alarm will sound alerting you. My friend used this monitor since her child would not sleep on his back, recommended by her doctor, and she was able to feel secure in knowing that her child would be safe. I hope this information helps you, good luck!

You should ask your doctor if this is ok and tell him how much easier your little guy sleeps this way. Also, for safety, make sure that you dont have extra stuffed animals, pillows, etc in the crib with him, your really suppossed to have just one blanket and nothing else in their crib for their protection. this will probably help ease your worries too!!

I've always been told that a baby should sleep on their back to prevent cot death but contact your health visitor, they should be able to advise you.

I let my son switch to tummy sleeping at 10-11 weeks- he has been sleeping through the night- its great! He slept in our room till he was 4 months though. As long their neck control is there to move their head- you should be fine.

My son is almost 10 months old and has probably been sleeping on his tummy since about 6 months. He rolls over as soon as I put him in the crib, so it's his choice. I think once they can roll over themselves it is fine

They say that once they learn how to roll over they are okay on their tummy because they can move their head if they can't breathe. I know I shouldn't but my son is the same way and has been on his tummy from the begining because its the only way he would sleep for long periods of time. I think its comforting for them because it feels like they are on us or something.

My daughter is 11 weeks and is the same way, she'll sleep at least 8 hours straight at night on her tummy, but doesn't last more than an hour on her back even on a wedge, but I check on her like every hour to make sure she's ok and has plenty of room around her head. Good luck!
