What are the best exercises to get back to your pre-pregnancy body?

[deleted account] ( 9 moms have responded )

I see the doctor this week for my 6 week check-up and am excited to get the go ahead for full activity. What are the best exercises to get back to your old self? I gained a couple of inches in both my thighs and tummy that I would really like to get rid of.

I agree with the above comment...it takes 9 months to put on the weight and 9 months to take it away. My baby is 4 months old and I recently cut out sweets and soda (even diet) from my diet and just am being more aware of what I put in my mouth. Nothing fried and no fast food. I am melting away the pounds!

Everyone's body is different but I would say start with walking and exercises that improve your core strength like yoga or pilates. Wii Fit is awesome for those exercises as you don't have have to leave home and could do it while baby naps!

Oh, I also agree with Aleksandra. Breastfeeding really takes the weight off!! haha. But if you don't already then its a little late to start. ;)

Walking!!! I'm officially 5 lbs lighter than I was before I got pregnant (I have a 3 1/2 month old). Walking helps a ton! Also pilates is a pretty good way to get your tone back. So is plank (really works your abs!), mild weight lifting and wall sits. I also add in calf raises for the extra toning of my calves. Good luck! And remember to start SLOW!

breastfeeding.....breastfeeding and once more breastfeeding... and also time... it takes 9 months to grow a baby, and it takes roughly same amount of time to get the body to go back...

Hey Alicia...congrats on your little one! As a wellness professional the best advice I can give is be realistic with yourself. Remember it took your body 9 months to makes those changes, and its probably gonna take a good year to get it back off. Emjoy all the time you can with your lil one...my son is 4 1/2 months old and i can't even remember how small he was at first. Start sliwly...walking, then maybe a jog if you have a jogging stroller...you can do lunges, core work, squats, push ups, mountain climbers, etc to help tone your core and lower body. Your arms will get enough of a workout with the baby. Be patient...it will come. Most importantly, keep your diet healthy!!!

You will definitally get toned arms from carrying your little bundle of joy everywhere. I had 15 pounds to lose after the birth of my daughter. I walked everyday for 1/2 hour or so and didn't drink soda or eat fatty foods and I lost 13 pounds in one month! Walking really helped me out a lot, although my town is all hills lol so you are going to be working u a sweat with that.

Just yesterday I re-signed up my gym membership and will be going back to the gym everyday after my daughter goes to sleep (so daddy can have him time)

If you cannot get out to the gym I use to do exercises between commercials on shows that I watched and did a lot of house cleaning.

If you look up on google after pregnancy tummy exercises they have this special type for someone who has had a baby. I started doing them and my tummy is tightening up really fast!

I walked a lot and I still walk everday. If it's cold and/or raining I go to the mall and walk the mall or something inside. Sarah is correct though. You will loose a lot with getting up and down and carrying your bundle every where, and with doing house chores also.
Good luck with everything:)

I know it's not what you want to hear but really do not even think about it yet!! You are going to be burning so much fat right now anyway, what with get up and down to baby and lifting baby all the time (no matter how light your little bundle is). Alot of the weight will come off naturally. I somehow lost weight while i was pregnant and then lost some more afterwards thanks to all the running around after baby. My son is now 8 months old and i've realised that i've put on all the weight i have lost over the last year. I have started doing little exercises with my son Thomas. I do press ups over him so went i go down i give him a little kiss on the nose, i do sit ups which he laughs at because Mummy's face is going all red lol. Also, take a look at baby yoga. I started when Tom was about 3 months old and its great for baby and gentle exercise for you too. Don't think you have to conform and get rid of all baby weight immediately. You have done the most precious, most natural thing in the world giving birth to a beautiful baby, allow yourself to celebrate with chocs etc before you rush into slimming down!! xx
