Lisa's advice is incorrect. dont use suppositores if you can avoid it always just use water. i have an extra needs child who has weekly vistis with the best dietitians/pediatricians/speechys etc in our area and they have had her on up to 300 mills of water per day. she had constipation for 11 and a half months until she got the pediasure as mentioned earlier we just used daily watter, prune/orange.apple juice, parachoc, coloxyl drops, no iron/rice cereal in the diet, vaseline on a cotton tip when changing the nappy, lower tummy massage, warm baths, and if baby is not FTT lke mine you can add an extra 5-10 mills of water when making up the formula. the main thing that worked for our girl was the water everythign else stopped working so make sure you give as much water as you can between feeds

Babies are NOT!!! constipated unless they are pooping hard pebble/marble like poop! Babies can go a week! without pooping. If the baby is pooping marble like pellets, then call your pediatrician about a baby suppository. Don't ever give water to help a baby (especially a NB!) poop! Formula is the culprit! Breast milk is a natural laxative and is digested VERY quickly. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

usually its from the formula, its common in formula fed babies but very uncommon in breast fed babies. Its because of the iron and the fact that their little new born bodies are having something that is not entirely natural, but the problem is usually fixed by plenty of water and when they start solids. nothing to worry about my daughter was constipated for 11 and a half months until she started pediasure at 12 months.

No problem! One thing as a new mom, is that we follow everything the doctor has to say. So for fore warning, the doctor will not agree with my tactics!LOL! I've been around older women, whose old wives tales are pretty consistant! I pretty much threw out the book and listened to their advice! Everyone is different!

I'm a new mommy. He is 12 days old and the Dr. said I can do breast and formula. I am not producing much so he is about 25% breast milk and 75 % formula. I probably do need to pump more. He loves to eat. I have been eating bananas and the formula does have iron. You're advice is great. We see the Dr. again in 2 days for his 2 week check up. I wonder what she'll say.

My first son was always constipated. The doctors said it was from the iron in his formula. Changing formula can make it worse. I let him drink a bottle or two of water through the day and I would put karo syrup in the bottom of his bottle and mix it with the water! It is a great laxative. I would just alternate the bottles of milk and water! Don't put too much karo syrup, just enough to cover the bottom of the bottle. I also learned how to give my baby a soap suppository when it got really bad. So many choices!

do you breast or bottle? if its bottle change her formula to less gassy ask your doc, mine was made improperly by my mother, i use powder she used ready made. my daughters belly just couldnt handle wrong formula and made wrong.if they get juice bump it up a bit that will help bring relief, if its too small for juice a little bit of prune juice worked wonders for me. my doc okayed it up to 4 times daily if it was under half an ounceif they are old enough try popciciles lol they love em, just make your own with their juice less sugar. i tried a teaspoon of karo syrup when ona was younger up to 4 times a day. it helped but you should check with your doctor to whats doing it. mines an odd child bananas make her unconstipated lol its apples that constipate her.

mostly lack of fluids. make sure when u feed formula u are not packing ur scoops, n if you're breastfeeding drink a lot of water yourself. If its solids then you would want to always offer a spoon of water after your child eats chalky foods such as bananas

Avoid bananas and baby rice, both can cause constipation. I do give my 8 month old banana because he loves it but i give it to him with Weetabix for his breakfast so the fibre balances out the banana. I've never tried him on baby rice as everybody said it can cause upset tummy and constipation x
