What do you do when your baby wakes up in the middle of the night and wants to play?

My son is almost six months old and he is constantly waking up in the middle of the night wanting to play. It usually happens around 3:30 - 4:30 and last an hour. It started out occasionally when he was about 4 months which I attributed to the "4 month wakeful period" thing. He would wake up in the middle of the night every 4 or 5 days at first. Then it became more like every 2 or 3 days and now it's been every night for past 9 days. He just wants to "talk" to me, give me kisses and touch my face. It's really sweet but tiring. If I ignore him or leave him in his bed he gets really upset and cries but I'm afraid that by giving in I'm making it a habit of it. Does anyone else have this problem? What do you do? Any advice? Thanks!

I have this problem with one of my twins. She just turned 6 months and squels and kicks her legs at 2A. I just keep putting the pacifier back in her mouth and she eventually goes back to sleep. SOmetimes I bring her in bed with us. My husband wants me to feed her but I know she is not hungry and just wants to play!

I have this problem from 2am to 4am, but my baby is only 2 months. I of course stay awake with her until she is ready to sleep again. Being 6 months, I don't know if this would be a habit forming session or if this is just a phase.
