My little boy, 2 months old has had a cough for a week now. When we took him to the doctor last friday, the doctor gave him a cough syrup (adco tussi infans). A few hours after giving him the medication, his temperature rose to 38.8, meanwhile he did not have a high temperature all along before we introduced medication, it was just a cough and sneezing. But thank God we managed to bring it down. I have since not given any medication, not even the antiboitics which was also given to him. So he has been coughing helplessly and i dont know what to do. Pleas help!

Vick's rubbed direct to the sole's of their feet and cover with sock will help ease the cough. And 1 tablespoon Colloidal silver in her drinks ( cooled boiled water) will help so much. Yes this is safe to give a 2mth old baby.

The reason why babies cannot have medicine at such an early age is that their bodies cannot process the medication through their system like older people do, it can be toxic. Their system is not developed enough to do so. I would also recommend not to put anything on their bodies such as vicks for again it goes through their blood stream and may be toxic. Before doing anything, I highly recommend talking with your doctor, pharmacist, and checking the labels of any medication prior to use.

If the baby is also congested, try elevating them while they are sleeping - this will help them drain and breathe better. I agree with the other moms by using a vaporizer or humidifier for your 2 month old baby's coughing. You may also try doing steam by letting the shower run with the door shut - you may get pretty warm but it will do wonders for the baby.

Good luck!

The Dr can't give you anything for your 2 month old baby coughing because there is nothing safe for a baby that age. There are too many side affects and unknown consequences. (including tylenol!!!) I'm sure you don't want to put your baby in any risk or potentially serious harm. Use a humidifier, to keep everything moist, you can use saline sprays, lots of rest and comfort from mum. If you're breastfeeding, lots of time at the breast is really helpful for bub too. That's about it.

If you use Vicks don't rub it directly on his chest put it on his pajamas and down low enough that he won't get it in his mouth (it burns like crazy if you get it on your lips)

It's probably best, the cough will go away on it's own, they don't really need medicine in many cases. Use a humidifier, sit with your baby in a steamy bathroom, and rub baby Vicks on his/her chest and back!

My 3 month old had a cold a couple of weeks ago. I would rub him with a little of baby vicks and put a cold water vaporizer in his room at night when he slept, it seem to work to help dry the cold out. Hope your 2 month old baby's coughing gets better soon.

My daughter has had two colds and an ear infection in the space of 5months, She had it at 3 weeks old and then again bout 2-3 months old. I used the Vicks Vapourizer, worked really well i thought, takes a day or two for you to notice but as i say some things work better for others than it does for you. but its best thing to try as you can't give her anything else!! xxx

I would go to the Chemist & ask over the counter. Describe your babies symptoms & that s/he is only 2 months old. They'll be able to give you the right medication that they can offer without a prescription for your 2 month old baby's coughing.

If your 2 month old baby's coughing is dry try sitting in the bathroom with the door shut and a hot shower running (don't put the baby in the shower, just sit in the steamy bathroom). If it is a wet cough cool dry air usually works best on that....try standing in front of the freezer with the door open for a few minutes. Most likely....the steamy bathroom will be your best bet

Quoting Amanda:

If you're using vicks vapor rub, make sure it's the baby rub, the regular stuff isn't approved for infants. I know it sucks but it's probably just mucus and you have to wait it out

you can use the regular one over 6months.

they make things like cal rub and snuffle babe (i had that) which are suitable for babys.

Most medicines are only suitable from 3 months old hun thats probably why your doctor has been unable to give you anything for when your 2 month old baby is coughing.

I remember when my son was tiny.. He had a constant cold from about 3weeks - 10 weeks (when he got his first jabs) .. He's a January baby.

I felt completely helpless then .. but there isn't so much you can do at that age medical wise.

I got a nasal aspirator .. dont use it so much now cuz he hates it and wriggles away, use saline nasal drops, these are suitable at a young age.

well that's strange because when my son was 1month old he had bronchitis and was really sick the dr prescribed a Xopenex inhaler( in a breathing machine) and we did that every 4-6hrs i believe and he was better within days so talk to your dr about Xopenex they have infant strengths because mine had to use it

I was lucky, my baby didn't get her first cold until she was 5 months. Even then, with a cough that lasted almost a month, the doctor told me not to give her any meds. Use a vaporizer or sit in the bathroom with the door closed, running a hot shower. Use Johnsons vapor bath and saline drops. If you're using vicks vapor rub, make sure it's the baby rub, the regular stuff isn't approved for infants. I know it sucks but it's probably just mucus and you have to wait it out

my baby girl is 2 1/2 months old..she just got over a cough and congestion after having it for 2 weeks..dr. didnt perscribe her anything cause shes too little..but he told me to use saline drops for her nose..i bought some called Little Noses..also he told me to get a cool mist vaporizor for the bedroom when she sleeps..so i did, and that worked also.

I have always loved little noses and little tummy's and all the little remedies stuff...they work really well...We are currently using the Little Noses Steril Saline Nasal mist and a spray can...i'm guessing its new b/c that's what it said on the can...lol...but it seems to be working really well too...

i would try infants tylenol cold and cough or something of the sort for your 2 month old baby's coughing and also johnson's has a vapor bath you can use and vicks has vapor rub for baby's that you can rub on the chest and back and also put in a humidifier/vaporizer...Them are the things I have done from day one with both my children if they got a cough....I would try all of that and if it still didnt get rid of it i would take the baby back to the doctor and demand something be done!!!

With the johnson's baby bath I always run some warm water and put about a cap ful in the water and let baby sit in it for a while...and as soon as they got out i rubbed the vicks baby rub on them clothed them and at night used the vaporizer/humidifier along with the baby rub.

You can buy a Vicks Vaporizer, works like a charm. If fills the air with the vicks medication and in no time the cough will go away. You can buy them at any supermarket, Walmart etc. Humidifiers work well as well, just in the past I've found the vaporizers to work better with coughs and colds.

When my son would get sick, my doctor didn't give him anything either. He told me to bring him back in a week if it didn't get better. Also if your baby is conjested, get some baby vicks and rub it on their feet at night and put socks on them. It helps.
