play with a mirror with him... on a playmat on the floor?? I started reading and singing to my baby boy as soon as i brought him home, even though they cannot understand this young, the rhythm of speech and song can comfort them and stimulate them intellectually to get used to ur voice and language itself...they cant really respond with big smiles at this point, but im sure anytime u spend with ur young one they will enjoy. watch for them looking away, turning there head away as signs of being bored besides crying . good luck :)

Are you able to soothe your baby? Yes? Then he/she is bored, tired, hungry, or dirty. At that age "play time" is minimal. Face to face smiling, talking, reading anything in a pleasant voice, mirrors, contrasting colour toys for you to play with for them. Change where you have them, crib, floor, chair, swing, etc. Be there touch, talk, smile and cuddle lots!! If your little can't stop crying no matter what you do and everything else is good (ie: full tummy, clean diaper, slept well, etc) then maybe its colic? It's all hard work, but worth it! I googled "playing with infants" for advice as well.

WOW!! you do have your hands full!!! when we first tried formula for our son he was around 6 mons.- we used enfimal lipil and then switched to similac soy.. he had less spit up, less gas (we also used gripe water and mylicon- after being told it was ok from his dr), and he seemed to stay full longer. when my son was on the floor, i put a mirror in front of him and laid beside him, showing him his nose, eyes, lips, ect (on the mirror) and since he was born in winter, we would walk the mall right after it opened- less people so less germs (to me anyway) and I would push him and he would look at the lights and I would talk to him... when he was really fussy, i would swaddle him, hold him like a football- sidelaying i think is the term, and shush in his ear... these are a couple of the 5 s's that a dr. came up with on how to soothe a fussy baby.

You can try singing to your baby. Babies love to hear your voice. Sing, and make faces, and make you baby interact by doing patty cake or itsy bitsy spider. Lay your baby on the tummy, and get down face to face and play. talk and tell stories, move a toy back in forth. That will teach you baby how to focus. I would recommend getting on www.whattoexpect.com, they have really good ideas for games and toys for every age. Good Luck

the past few days he hasnt been sleeping for more then maybe 45 mintes to half an hour at a time WHEN he does sleep

Its hard when they're that small because they still sleep a lot during the day and aren't too into their surroundings yet. But thats ok! Swings or bouncy chairs are good, reading stories (they like listening to your voice even if they don't understand yet) or singing, walking around and showing him/her things... or just holding him and cuddling! They don't need much when they're that age.

Thanks..I tried the swing,but he cries after a couple of minutes..i tried the mat with the lights and music,he wouldnt stop crying..i try walking him around,but then he starts crying..its like when he is up pretty much the only time he doesnt cry is when he is eating :( i mentioned to his pedi about switching from enfamil lipil to the less fussy one, but he said he didnt really believe in switching formulas..should i try it anyways?the past couple of days he has been spitting up after each feeding and more then normal,so maybe he is still hungry??i am so frustrated:(

Baby massage, You can learn tecniques for colic and play some soothing sounds wilst you are doing it. Also try baby exersizes wich also go well with baby massage.

Also take him for a walk in his pram to a park so you will have lots to talk to him about or the movment might help sooth him if he is colicy.

I know exactly how you feel! We felt the same way, when our son( who is our 1st child) was at that age, especially when he is fussy, we had no clue as to what to do. He is now 3 months, but I learned you can do, even at that age is, play some music and sing, to him. Like Sara said, they love toy's that light up, and play music. We have this mat that you lay on the floor, then you lay him on the mat, and there is this toy that lights up and plays music when you pull down on the toys.. sorry I don't know what it's called..:p But my son likes that, it's for infants up to toddler age. , If you have swing, that is one of the greatest inventions! My son loves his swing as well. As for development.. "Leap Frog" company has educational things.. Hope that helps a bit. Have a look in walmart, see what they have in the toy section, they tell you on the package, how they teach your child to learn, and what they learn:)

Try toys that light up or make noise. Put your baby on their tummy. Get down on the floor and play with them (talk to them, make faces, show them toys...). Try a bouncy chair. With my daughter, I had to keep moving her around until I found something she liked (and she usually only liked it for a little while).
