My water broke just after lying down to go to sleep.
TIP: Get a waterproof pad to put in your car in case this happens. I'd gotten a towel to put in the car but when my water broke, I randomly grabbed a waterproof pad that was lying over our pack 'n play.
Glad I did too...I GUSHED (no joke) from the moment my water broke until I arrived at the hospital an hour later, all the way through filling out my medical information at the front desk (I went into labor on the weekend and had to do this in the emergency room), and then all the way up to the fourth floor. I PUDDLED all the way...I had amniotic fluid running all down my legs and into my rubber crocs. It was like I was peeing and I kept looking at my husband all the while saying, "This would be sooo gross if it weren't so funny!" The nurse said it was a "gross hemmohrage" of my water that didn't happen often.
I only had some minor contractions once my water broke, and they didn't start to get too bad until about 4 hours after.

I was a week late and had an appointment to be induced Monday (it was Friday) the only symptom I had was mucus for the week leading up, in case anyone hasn't already said it, your mucus plug isn't really a plug it's just goop and it doesn't come out all in one clump! Then my water broke while I was just sitting on the couch at 3:30 (it feels like you peed yourself and it doesn't stop...I just hung out in the shower for a while) in the afternoon and my daughter was born at 1:40 a.m....I had it easy though. I didn't dialate past 1 cm until midnight and I didn't even go to the hospital until 8 because my contractions didn't start right away.

My water broke on the way to a friend's house. Didn't have contractions for another 6 hours. Just when they were ready to get me going my little girl decided she would do it on her own. :)

I was very uncomfortable but I was 5 weeks early, my first sign was when I got up at 3:30 am to go to the bathroom and my water broke!!!!  We got to the hospital around 4 am and they had to give me meds to get my contractions and labor started.  I had my baby girl at 3:50 in the afternoon!!!

I had no labour signs at all...not a twinge, baby didn't drop...nothing! Then 9 days after my due date my water broke while I was lying in bed...luckily I had just woken up so I was able to jump up and go to the bathroom otherwise my new mattress would have had a thorough christening!

both my kids were very much the same. it started about two weeks out. small 'cramps' and I woke up to each labour starting first thing in the morning (6am) and progress thoughout the day. the cramps were 1/2 hr apart and by mid afternoon 20minutes apart, and by 9pm 5 minutes apart. the cramps evolved from the level of a bad menstrual cramp to a pain that starts to push you to your happy place. No bones about it take yoga, the breathing helps.



Then the actual delivery starts, The cramps that have evolved to a truly painful grip on your lower half (first birth was lower back second because I did more crunches was both front and back ) suddenly kick into overdrive. Your happy place is squashed into a place that can only be described as hell. (I was later told by my doctor that is when the head is coming through) the pain is overwhelming and I took out a nurse with my right leg the second birth. breathing long deep breaths was the only thing that helped me focus. but i digress.



gory details aside, I did it again with my second, and I didn't lose my mind. best wishes.

Hi ya first sign of labour 4 me was my contractions, they came on very suddenly an we're every 2-3 mins, lasting a min an they we're quite painful. I rang the labour ward at that moment an they told me 2 go in, i was 4cm dilated when i got there, i had my baby 6 hours later! Good luck x

I lost my mucus plug but I didn't really have too much pain, just in my back.  But then started to get worse, and unfortunetly I had back labour ( so horrible!) and I was in labour for 2 and a half days!

well 3 days before i had my daughter, i was at work and i just felt like i was getting these pains every so often and they werent bad or anything but it was pretty uncomfortable so i went home. I knew that these were contractions so i was really excited, i live in an apartment and there is a school right behind the building with a running track, so i walked around that for about 30 mintues, then i went to bed and in the middle of the night i felt the pains getting more intense, i couldnt sleep the rest of the night, the next day i was so ready to go to the hospital but i called first just to tell them i was coming, well they made me stay home since my contractions werent that bad and werent coming consistantly, i was super pissed!!! but as the day went on my contractions got worse and just continued from there, i didnt sleep that night either, my mom stayed with me and counted my contractions with me all night long, finally at about 930 in the morning my contractions were about 7 to 5 mintues apart and i was so miserable so my mom took me in and i was dialated to a 3 and i got an epidural and an hour later i was fully dialated and ready to push!!

I never went into labor. I had really hard contractions for about 2 weeks, but they never developed a regular pattern, and I never dilated or effaced. At 42 weeks, after a biophysical profile and a non-stress test, my doctor determined that my baby was very large, my placenta was aging, and that my cervix was "green" (not going to ripen). We had a c-section the next morning, and a gave birth to a 10 lb. baby!!

my first sign was when i wake up and i was so uncomfortable more some then i ever was and then it got worse from there it went from every 20 mins to 5 mins and went to the hospital when they were every 5 mins for more then 2 hours
