what are some opinions about the best form of birth out of these: Depo shot, tube tied, or IUD?

I've been told that IUD is 99.9% effective. That's what I'm doing after our little bubs is born. :)

I would say no sex is 100% because everything else is not so if you dont want to get pregnant dont have sex. otherwise you are taking a risk not to mention there are side effects for taking birth control depending on the person....

I have an implant too, i got it two days after i had my daughter my OB put it in when i was still in the hospital. I had one before i got pregnant too and when we decided to have a baby i had it taken out and it only took about 2-3 mths to fall pregnant. It is awesome not to have to worry about 'forgetting to take it' and it is really inexpensive

Someone I know that is often wrong when telling me things, told me the IUD kills a fertilized egg and is basically an abortion. I dont believe this, but wanted to make sure...

I would def NOT recommend depo!! I got on depo in 2001 & was told I could take it for 5 yrs. After 4 yrs of not having a menstrual cycle, I started my period but bled for weeks and weeks without stopping. I also for the first time ever had cramps along with it. The cramps started to get worse and worse and would literally cause me to drop to the floor they were so painful. I also began to have several other health problems. When I went in to the dr they said that it was from the depo and said I should have been off of it after 2yrs. I was a little aggravated that they were the ones giving me the shot every 3 mos and hadn't noticed not once in 2yrs that I was past due to be taken off of it. I guess they just overlooked it. They said that when I got on it in 2001 that they thought it was safe for 5yrs, but later that same yr the manufacturer came back and said it should only be given for 2 yrs. I did like the convenience of not having to remember a pill...but it is not worth the side effects. If you google "depo side effects" you will find lots of info. I even found a website once called "Depo horror stories" and there is a ton of other women who have had way worse problems than I had.

I have not tried IUD so I can't give any advice on that route...but I've known a few people who liked it.

Good luck!

well out of those options i have done 2. i was on the depo shot for a little over a year and i gained 20 pounds. if it werent for the weight gain i would have loved it! but i have heard a lot of people say that they had fertility problems afterwards. i now have the mirena iud. its not my favorite but it is good for 5 years and me and my husband want to wait at least 3 years before another baby. good luck!

The IUD doesn't work. I got pregnant after 4 1/2 months. the IUD was still in the right place and everything. I also know 2 other mom's in my town that got pregnant on it & we went to different doctors. I got my tubes tied after I had I gave birth to my 4th child (the one conceived on the IUD) it has worked for me for 7 months now..so we will see. Getting your tubes tied is a little more expensive and more permanent though. You can get it reversed but it doesn't always work! SO that would be a big decision for you to make. My older sister gained like 15 lbs after 3 months and got pregnant after 6 months on the depo shot. My little sister has been on the pill for 3 years and hasn't gotten pregnant but then you have to remember to take that pill everyday.

i would say the IUD too. its expensive at first, but it will last 10 years! and you don't have to remember to do anything. i'm going to get it after my next baby i think.

copper IUD (paragaurd) good for up to ten years with NO HORMONES! great especially if you tend to gain weight when on bc

i took the depo for almost 2 years i gained some weight and it took over a year to get my period back after I stopped taking it. When it did return it was every other month weird... wouldnt have been an issue except I quit taking it so my hubby and i could start a family hard to do without a cycle...although we did eventually conceive 2 yrs after my last shot. I have a sister in law that has taken the shot for years without any side effects so it depends on the person.
