all babies are different....don't listen to the doctors, they always feed you garbage...like my kids doc said to not start potty training her until 3...she's 2 and loves the potty...you will know when your child is ready to take on a new milestone...my daughter started eating from jars at 6 months..I started with one a day and with formula still....o and by the way always start with that gooky ceareal junk first!

At the 4 month visit doc said I could and did. He just seemed to want to eat what we were eating. I slowly started stage 1 fruits & veggies, trying something new every 3 days for allergic reactions, while giving oatmeal cereal (doc said it would help with constipation). I also gave diluted juice around the 4 month to help with consitipation too. Now at 6 months, we just started stage 2 foods at dinner. He really seems to love everything. For lunch he still gets a stage 1 fruit & veggie. Trying to ease him into stage 2.

i started my son on vegetables at 7 months. My doctor told me that starting them on food 2 soon can give them allergies 2 certain foods. My son is almost 8 months old now, and he is still on the basic vegetables, and has only tried a few fruits. they will not be picky eaters if u start late!

I started my son on cereal around 4 months old. Then introduced baby food when he was 6 months old. One per wk. Alternating between fruits and veggies. He got his first two teeth when he was 5 1/2 month old. By the time he was 10 months he had 8 teeth and eating table food. He is now 11 1/2 months old and growing so fast. But I would consult your dr. every baby is different. :)

My daughter was aroung 4 months old. She was hungry all the time and would go through at least 13 to 15 bottles a day. So I started her on rice then food. She is great now. Some ppl say to wait until a certain age but personaly I think it all depends on your baby. what he or she is ready for. Only you know for sure.

I started Becca on baby rice at 4 months, now she is nearly 6 months she has three to four meals a day. I do get her the dried food that you add her bottle too. But i hope to start her on some pureed carrot or fruit soon. She loves her food..

I started at 6 months...and make sure u start with veggies first because once they taste the sweet fruit they won't want veggies anymore....and make sure u feed them the same kind for at least two weeks to make sure they don't have a reaction to it.

I think it definately depends on your baby. My daughter is 6 months 1 week and she will not eat food. Ive tried cereal and a few types of veggies and fruits but she just isnt ready. The doctor says thats fine because for the first year food is just supplemental and they get all of their nutrients from formula anyway. So mainly I think its whatever you and your baby are comfortable with. Good luck!

I actually started giving my daughter rice cereal at about 3 months and veggies and fruits at 4 months (introducing all of the fruits and veggies one by one for about 4-5 days at a time just to make sure she didnt have any allergies, or digestion issues) so far so great!!

We breastfed exclusively for the first six months, then on his 6-mo birthday, he had his first jar of veggies. I introduced him to a couple of veggies before any fruits so that he would get used to their flavor. He still loves his veggies and he's 15 mos now!

6 months old is the norm. But if your baby isn't getting enough from formula alone, our doctor said we could start at 4 months with our second daughter. But you may want to check with the babies doctor to see if your child is ready sooner than 6 months.

I agree with most of these replies. I started all three of my babies on rice & veggies around 4 months. I left them on only veggies for a full month before introducing fruits. My girls (now 3 and 5) will still eat all their veggies including Brussels Sprouts, broccoli, asparagus, and most others. I also make most of my own baby food, saving tons of money. It also allows for more variety of foods. At meal times, I just pop whatever I'm making into the processor and POOF! Baby food.
My pediatricians all approved of my choices, commended them even. I'm also enrolling in classes soon to become a licensed nutritionist.

My son was around 4 months old, maybe a little sooner. I still give him a bottle in between feedings. I normally start with oatmeal cereal for breakfast...and veggie and fruit for lunch and supper. Chaysen is also on meats, like ham and turkey baby food.
He started drinking from a sippie cup when he turned 6 months old.

Once you have tried and tested all the single grain cereals you can start introducing jar food. Best to start with veggies as the after the sweet fruit they may not want the not so sweet veggies. It can take about three weeks of cereals before started veggies...you want to make sure there are no ill effects. Don't forget, not sleeping well is an ill effect.

I started my son on baby oatmeal when he was 2 months and then went to baby food when he was 3 months and he eats oatmeal in the morning with a bottle and a jar of baby food at supper time with a bottal and then anything inbetween he has a bottal and he seems like he is a lot fuller doing it this way. We give him 2 in baby food and he is almost 4 months old and he weighs about 20lbs and was only 6lbs 4oz when he was born.

Both of my boys I started right at four months. I think the recommended age is four to six months. My boys, however, were ready for baby food by four months, and they both were in childcare and four months was the age that they started introducing baby food as well.

we started our girls on cereal around 5 months and jarred fruits and veggies around 6 months. they both took to it quickly, by 6 1/2 or 7 months soft pieces of bread or chunks of soft potato were great. also those little mesh baggy things you can buy are great - put a hunk of strawberry or mango or cooked baby carrot inside and they can gnaw on it without worrying about them choking!

my doctor approved my son for rice cereal at 3 months nursing on demand wasn't fulfilling so that helped and he started jar food a month later now 2 months later only stage 2 jar food and a FULL 8 oz bottle can hold him for maybe 6 hours im starting to think that the whole eating early thing backfired on me=/

We started on baby cereal, oatmeal, and jars of food around 5 months. Then at about 6 months we started on gerber puffs and yogart melts, he got his bottom 2 teeth in at 5 1/2 months and they worked wonders for occupying him and satisfying him in between meals.
