My girls started sleeping through at exactly the same time at around 5mths, taking into account they were 8wks early, that is around 3mths old. We have the odd time up during the night. We get from 8:30pm - 5:30am - can't complain =)

Well mines was the same, but now my son is 4mnths old today but he started sleeping right thru the night 2wks ago, but every kid is different just hang there, you should nap when they do during the day, thats if you are able too.

My daughter is 9 months old and has never slept thru the night. her sleep patterns have changed as she gets older. she was starting to sleep a little longer each night but then she started teething (she is getting 6 teeth at once), unfortunately she is waking up more often because of this. My other 2 kids never slept thru the night either. they started to once they were over 1 yr. But each baby is different. Being a new mom you do need rest too, so sleep when the baby sleeps and if you are worried about getting stuff done around the house do it when the baby is awake, and ask your family for help, your body is still healing.

It will be a while, "through the night" is a huge expectation. My bub is 10weeks & is still feeding every 4hrs. The best thing would be to try & nap during the day when bub is so you're not pulling your hair out! It took me a few weeks to get used to adjusting my timetable to suit bubs. Good luck!!!

I have a 5 week old, she still wakes up every 3-4 hours to be fed during the night, though when she was 2 weeks old it was pretty much every hour on the hour, if your baby is hungry that often and your breastfeeding you need to feed that often or you'll hurt your milk supply. To be honest i've heard the average time for sleeping through the night is 3-6 months. You have to sleep when the baby sleeps during the day.

sleep when baby sleeps during the day! Baby only 2 weeks! Needs to feed often (remember very little tummy and a lot of growing to do), have comfort often... doesnt yet have a brain developed enough to recognise day from night ( didn't need to in the womb)... its only been 2 weeks..... you will see how much change baby will go through re sleep patterns by 12 mths ( and that is a very short time when comparing to a life time) that this first 2 weeks, though seems and feels very hard... will not mean much...lol
Before I had my first every mother/father I knew kept on telling me this: "sleep when baby is sleeping.. don't worry about house work, etc... just make sure you sleep when baby sleeping!"
I would encourage any mother to do the same.

'Sleeping through the night' is actually sleeping for 5 hours. My son still wakes for 2 feeds during the night and he is 3.5 months old. Babies need their sleep and won't sleep if they are over-tired, so keeping them up during the day won't actually help just make it worse.

A baby is able to sleep through the night at 12lbs...able to sustain for that long without eating. Not sure if you know this, but a 5 hour stretch is considered sleeping through. Breast fed babies tend to not sleep thorugh as soon as formula fed, formula sustains longer. Also, kids usually don't sleep right through the night until around 3 years of age. They get up often in the night and are able to soothe themselves back to sleep(hopefully), that depends on the parent though. Once the baby is at 12lbs, you can start weening him off the night time feedings by giving him a little less for a few days, than a little less from that, and so on and so forth. He will learn to go through the night, but he has to be at a weight where he can sustain for that long. My little guy was just over three months the first time he 'slept' through, which was 6 hours, not 8 or 12. Every baby is different, there is no textbook answer. I know of a little guy who didn't sleep through until AFTER his first birthday!!! You need to recruit someone for a night and nap during the day whenever possible. My guy is almost 8 months old and I still feel tired all the time. You will be tired forever I think! LOL!! And, don't forget about nights where you battle teething, or gas, or whatever! I hope that by one year we will be back on track...keeping my fingers crossed! Get on truckin' mama, you'll get there! You can have someone else get up with the baby for one night, so you can catch up...and don't forget COFFEE!!! Good Luck! =D

My little guy ( 6 months) still isn't sleeping through the night. I have tried everything. I did the keep up during the day with little to no naps ( torture for the poor kid), I did the let him cry all night long for a week and then they won't wake up ( yeah right), I did the feed at 11 and then they will sleep until morning. NON of it worked. He sleeps at 7-7:30 ( on his own), wakes up at 2 and then at 5. Like clock work!! I can feed at 11, he still wakes up, I can try putting him to bed later, he falls asleep, I try not getting up and letting him cry it out, he stops crying but is awake and then resorts to sucking on his hand...so...I just gave up and just get up. In time I am hoping he will skip the 2 wake up and go from 7-5 ( 10 hours). He also take 2 naps during the day now ( on his own) now. I figure that is his clock. Nothing I have done seems to change it, so I have let it go. So...allll that to tell you, they will do it on their own time and no matter how much we need sleep and try to change them, they won't change ( at least mine hasn't)....and I am not one of those let them do whatever type of mom and have read many sleeping books for babies...NON WORKED!!. so, now I have just resorted to relaxing and letting nature take its course. Funny thing is, as soon as I did that, he slept from 7-4 a couple of night...so maybe in time...

Many babies can start sleeping from 10-5 at 6-7 weeks. Get the book Baby Wise. Some parts of it you may not agree with, but the routine of waking your child during the day to feed will help you get him/her to sleep at night. I have 3 children who all started sleeping through the night between 6-8 weeks. Hang in there. It is tough, but short term. This special time will go so fast. Sweet dreams:)

my pediatrician told me at 6 weeks to feed at 5 pm and dont let her fall sleep, play with her, tummy time, let her cry, give a long warm bath around 830, and feed sometime after nine. i havent tried it but it might help.

Don't feel discouraged! :) Like others have been saying, typical age is around 3 months. My son started sleeping through the night at 10 weeks. I remember eventually feeling like a zombie from lack of sleep, lol. It'll pass and you won't even think about it anymore! Also, I agree with Donna. Don't wake him during the day, little ones need their sleep. Babies that age sleep about 20 hours a day in 1-4 hour bursts,

He needs to wake up at least every 3-4 hours to eat, even at night. This is just part of his growing. He's going to do this for at least 2-3 months. Mine woke up every 2 hours for 8 weeks straight. Then he went to every 3-4 hours until 3-4 months and it kept getting longer from there. Even now at 10 months, he wakes up at least once during the night but sleeps at least 10 hours a night.

If you are like me...and you sound like you are..I lOVE sleep!! and need it too! Babies need to be feed every 3 hours ish...especially when they are little...they are only awake for about 45min between feeds and will need a couple of feeds at night. I believe in getting them into a routine with feedings as their metabolisim will stabalise and they will get into a nice sleep/feed/play routine and you can gradually extend the times between feedings as they grow and your night time feedings will drop and by about 8 weeks of age you can sleep 7-8 hours at night! man..you feel good after a nights sleep too!! If you want more help with this let me know...ok!

I have a 4 week old, and at 2 weeks my Violet was waking every 4 hours, Sorry but being that little they need to be fed regularly. Lean on your support for some downtime or express and let the other half do a feed so you can have a bigger sleep block.

I know, I know you really want that first full night of sleep. Be patient and before you know it your baby will be sleeping through the night. My son was sleeping a straight 5 hrs when we first brought him home and then it decreased to 3. Finally at a month old he was sleeping a good 9 hours straight and to be honest all I can remember/say about him was that he was a really good baby. I oddly don't even/hardly remember the sleepless nights and he's only 4 months and 2 days to today (sleeping an awesome 11 hours/night). It's different for every baby and be patient because otherwise I fear for you it'll just seem longer before he's sleeping through the night.

I wouldn't keep ur lil one up in the day, they need there sleep! Usally they shouldn't be up for more than 1-2 hours at that age. And unfortunately they will still wake every 3-4 hours in the night! Just make sure you sleep when baby does in the day time, dont even worry about the housework!!
