Water will make the baby feel full and there are no calories or nutrients in water if baby is breastfed or formula fed I know health nurses-pediatrics will say no water. When people are trying to lose weight they up there water to feel full but theres nothing there so they lose weight same for babies but could be dangerous especially if your baby is below average weight

If your trying to just get rid of hiccups dont fret! It dosent hurt your baby ( i'm sure it hurts us more lol!) I would wait on the water.

my baby is 6 months old and my doc told me not to give any water because she dont need it. But she did say to keep an eye on her poo and that if it got really thick or my baby was constipated then it would do no harm to give her water.

My baby is on BM, I did not give her any water until she is about 5 months 1 week old, when I start giving her solid. Even then, I only give her about 20ml maximum per water feed as her main diet is still largely BM. =)

my specialist said if you only give them a little it wont effect your bm and to give it to them after you feed.

Thank you all. Your replies were very helpful. I think I will try her on an half a ounce or so today when she gets her round of hiccups.

just wanted to say you should not give it at all if bf as doing so can diminish your mik supply as the water fills baby up so they inevitably feed less at the breast causing a loss of milk its ther same as suplimenting with formula in that respect.

I think as long as you're not using it to replace regular feedings with breastmilk/formula you're ok. I gave my baby it the 1st time at about 2 months.

you don't say if your baby is breastfed? if so then your baby does not need water they get all the fluid they need in your milk. but a formula fed baby can be given cooled boiled water in a sterile bottle to hydrate on a hot day and to help with constipation.

One of my twins (10 weeks old) gets a half ounce every 3 days or so, at the advice of his pediatrician. The small amount keeps him from getting constipted. Otherwise, the doc says they det plenty of water in their formula or breastmilk.

My pediatirician won't let me give my twins water yet and they are 7 months old. She said to wait until their kidneys are more developed. They were preemies so that might be why I have to wait, but that's what I was told.

hey!! Well my baby is 3mths old, and her last dr. appt I asked the same thing, he said that all ages can have water, but you have to be VERY VERY careful because they get strangled very very easy. But he said it is not a have to thing because she was getting plenty of water with her formula. So the only time that I give my Naomi water is if she gets the hicups. =)
Remember that when you do give him water sit him straight up =))
