When do postpartum night sweats stop?

[deleted account] ( 11 moms have responded )

I just had my second baby girl 16 days ago :) Every time I wake up to nurse her in the middle of the night I am just dripping in sweat (sorry, gross!) I don't want to crawl back into bed because my sheets are soaking wet. Argh! I'm tired of washing them every day. Does anyone else have postpartum night sweats and when did the sweating end for you?

I experienced postpartum night sweats (of the worst kind) the night after I delivered my 1st child, my son, and they lasted on and off for the first few months. However, with my second child, my daughter, they lasted for 9 months (the entire time I breastfed). I am not sure if there is any connection to the breastfeeding. I delivered my children when I was 31 and 33 yrs old, respectively. Now, at 44, I still occasionally have night sweats. They are not pretty! When I ask my OB/Gyn about it they seem to think it is normal. I love my children so, but I have never really been the same physically since childbirth. Good Luck to you and feel better!

I hear you. My son is 11 days old and I'm having postpartum night sweats too (i have to change before I nurse him otherwise I'm freezing). I found postpartum night sweats lasted a few weeks with my older son. I think it's a good thing though, your body getting rid of the hormones and fluid so that we can get back to normal faster...

its a progesterone defiency. Your main source of progesterone was the placenta for the past nine months. Suddenly, your body is in withdrawal. I get them because I'm still nursing, and so my ovaries aren't producing enough progesterone. Perimenopause does the same thing. @Francine, I would stipulate that while it is extremely common, it is not "normal", but a symptom of an ill xenoestrogenic environment that we first world nations have created. I would recommend avoiding processed soy and try switching to organic home and personal cleaners.

The same thing happened to me when I was nursing. You might want to try wicking pajamas to help with the sweating. You can find them online at Cool-jams.

I had them for the first 2 weeks after I gave birth but they went away. It was extremely frustrating.
