hi louise i am a hairstylist and see many moms with the same problem as it is very worrying it is very common when u are pregnant you dont loose as much hair as normal so it appears that your hair gets thicker but after having baby you start loosing the hair that u should have lost anyway and we tend to neglect ourselves after having babies cuz were so busy so make sure u drink plenty and eat well to stop your hair and skin drying out i hope this has helped

Post Partum hair loss is normal. It usually occurs at around 3 months after and ends around 6. When you're pregnant the hormones causes your hair to cycle quicker (causing thicker hair) and going back to normal afterwards. Your hair normally has a cycle and falls out it's just that normally your hair is on different cycles so it's not noticeable when it comes out. If it goes on after 6 months or you think it's too much call a doctor. Usually the problem takes care of itself once your body has readjusted.

It might be worth the investment to get a liter of Nioxin. Also, when you do regrow your hair, keep your lanolin handy- a small, small dab on your finger tips is great for controlling fly aways!

Have you had your thyroid checked? Your body is going through a ton of hormone changes and you may consider getting some blood work done.

I can feel for you because while I was nursing, my hair fell out leaving about 6 bald patches some as big as 2in. in diameter- which was later diagnosed as alopecia areata. It was explained to me as unrelated to pregnancy or nursing. I had to go see a dermatologist to have treatments done to stimulate regrowth of my hair! Today, a year later, I still have spots that I have to cover by pulling my hair up. Have your hair dresser keep a close eye on your scalp and just remember the joy and blessing of your baby being so worth a bad hair day!

It is totally normal for you hair to fall out after pregnancy. However, if it continues, or is worrying you, get your Doctor to check your thiroid levels as these can be effected during pregnancy and can impact your hair, milk producing, energy levels etc

Yeah, the joys of not being pregnant! It's the hormones and I thought that I escaped this horrible happening but mine started coming out when my daughter was about 6-7 months (she's 91/2 months now). My husband just had to unclog the shower darin this evening, lol. I feel your pain : ) Next it'll be gray hairs replacing the ones you just lost.

Completely normal. My baby is 3 months old and my hair has been falling out a lot. Every time I take a shower there's a wad of hair in the drain. There's also hair all over the house! This also happened with my first daughter whom I did not breastfeed - I am currently breastfeeding my 3 month old. I don't think breastfeeding matters. When we're pregnant our hair doesn't fall out and shed, that's why it gets so thick. After delivery all that should have shed falls out. This is all due to hormones.

Could just be because of stress. True story. Stress causes hair loss. Just remember that it'll all work out alright and that it could be worse. Take one day at a time and one problem at a time.

Ok first of all keep calm! No need to freak yourself out any more than you already are. It is TOTALLY NORMAL!! With all of the hormones that go though your body when you are pregnant it takes alot out of your system. You will find that no matter what you do you will lose hair. Not to worry though it will grow back! Also as humas we go through a cycle and we lose all our hair ( over a period of time of course not all at once) every 7 years or so maybe you are at that stage aswell like i was. I started losing my hair a few months after giving birth then it seemed to just get worse and worse i too was concerned and spoke to my hairdresser and doctor about it. All you can do is brush it a bit more often and grin and bear it. By the way when it does start to grow back in properly be prepared for lots of new growth sticking out all over the place! Just try and be patient!

I literally did not have to clean out my hair brush once while pregnant with either of my girls. My hair was SOOO thick and then after they were born and I finished nursing it fell out EVERYWHERE!! I felt like I left a trail of hair everywhere I went! It is very normal as your hormones continue to change and return to "normal". If it doesn't slow down or you are finding bald spots or seriously thinning spots I would call your doctor.

PERFECTLY NORMAL! And perfect timing also! Did you have drugs during labour? If so that will cause your hair to fall out more also. I unfortunately had strep throat just after having my first child. I didn't know i just had a sore throat for a day. They ran blood work and it turned out I had strep throat 2 weeks before my hair started to fall out from labour/delivery. Strep throat also can cause your hair to fall out its the only real symptom I get.

i didnt have any drugs just gas and air as my labour came on very quick and was over very quick, i dont think ive had that strep thing as i havent has a sore throat, but thanks for your reply any help is much appreciated x

Have you just finished breastfeeding? I know i lost a lot of hair just as i stopped and it was completely normal. If it is really worrying you and your hair is actually getting quite noticeably thinner go see your doctor just to make sure it's not stress related.

Im still breastfeeding its noticably thinner arround the hair line like when a man gets a receading hair line its like very short baby hair there,

If there isn't any bald patches I wouldnt worry. Its normal to lose quite abit of hair after having a baby. My daughter is 4 and a half months old and my hair is the same when i run my fingers through clumps come out. If you are really worried just pop to the docs for a blood test as hair loss can be due to anaemia so you may need to increase your iron intake.

It is s normal biological reaction to the body's hormone level returning to restasis. While pregnant, your body does amazing things, you glow, your hair thinkins and is shiny, your nails grow, and your boobs fill out... then it goes away! Talk about cruel! lol You are not alone, and your hair will be pre baby normal again! Now if only our bodies would follow suit! :(

Try taking some vitamins! My hair started to fall out while pregnant because my body wasnt getting enough vitamins...But definatly ask your doc just in case its something else!

It's just your hormones going all over the place...give it some time, mine did the same thing, but once my hormones got back on track, after having my daughter last year, my hair grew like wild-weeds!

Take a breather..you'll be fine!

I know that while pregnant we get fuller hair and that after our baby is born we lose the extra fullness. I don't know how soon afterwards that this happens. Call your doctor as you may need to see a dermatologist.

Good luck mama!
