Why is my toddler coughing a lot at night?

I've recently noticed that my 22 month old has been coughing a lot at night. I'm assuming that it does wake her up but that she falls right back to sleep because she doesn't cry or anything.. I'll hear her cough about once every hour for several hours after she's been put down for the night. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Thank you

i post this a lot. a dry non productive cough is a sign of allergies / reactive airway disease (like baby asthma) and would be worse at night, around 2am. ask the doc if they recommend trying an OTC allergy med, like childrens zyrtec (USE THE GENERIC ONLY, as the maker of zytrec, mcneil / johnson and johnson, has had to recall a lot of childrens medicine and i think they the FDA had to take over 3 of their facilities bc they are disgusting) you can also try an asthma / allergy specialist. :) good luck!
