I had a C-section and I have no feeling in the skin on my belly, it has been 3 months now and still no feeling? Its basically numb and tingly to the touch, rather annoying! Will I ever have normal feeling again? If so when?

I have had four c-sections over the past almost-11 years. I will tell you that the skin on your incision scar will never feel the same again. However, it won't necessarily stay numb, especially after just one. I have 3 incisions that were all in the same spot (so only one scar), and one right above it. The more you have in one spot, the stranger it will feel afterward. But the tingly feeling you have now should eventually go away. :)

Hi Kayla, I had an emergency c section 7 1/2 months ago now and thought my tum would never feel normal again, but after about 6 months it started to return to almost 100%. I don't notice it now at all, but if you touch it then it does feel slightly numb still. I think a lot of the replies to you are correct, that everybody is different and each person heals differently. My scar seems to play up every month when my period is due and becomes tender again, but goes as soon as my period starts. I found arnica tablets really really helped as it encourages healing, I swear by it, so give that a try. It's completely natural so nothing to worry about. Also, just to say if you're thinking of buying 'fit flops' to get back into shape, hold off until you hit 6 months. The way they're made adjusts your core muscles, which adjusts all your tummy and back etc, so be careful of your c section - I learnt the hard way and it was pretty tender until I stopped wearing them until after I hit the 6 month mark. Oh and my Mum said that she still gets a bit tender on her scar now and then too, from both me and my sister and that's 37 years ago!! :-)

90% of the time you will get feeling back...however how long that will take depends greatly on your body. If I remember correctly the nerves in your skin can grow something like 1/8 in per week. You won't have feeling back until these start to re-attach themselves together. This will usually take around 1 year. I got feeling back after my first 2 sections right around 11-12 months. I'm only 3 months out from my 3rd section, so hopefully I'll be feeling everything again in about 8-9 months.
Also, if you had a horizontal incision (bikini cut) it is completely normal to have feeling above the incision line (between belly button and scar) and not below it (in pubic region.)

I had a c section as well 2 months ago..my skin is numb below the belly button but no tingle feeling. I have a friend of the family who had one 9 years ago and her skin in that area is still numb!! so i think it just depends on the person!! and also how the doctor did your incision!

reading this was so helpful. I was scared something was wrong with me because its been almost 4 months and i still have no feeling in my lower belly skin after the c-section. Its a weird feeling that I can pinch the skin and not feel a thing. its nice ot know its not just me. i also wanted to have belly reduction surgery and wanted to know when it would be safe to do so.

im glade somebody ask this question..lol hate the feeling n sum times i get sharp pains there nit hurts randomly.. n i hate the way thr scar feel.. is there sum kind of lotin to held it go away

The sharp pains are more than likely being caused by internal adhesions.  This is where the tissues are basically growing together where they should not be.  It does happen alot with section.  If you google cesarean section adhesion remedy you should get some results in which it will tell you about ways in which to help release some of the pulling and tugging that is creating the sharp pains.

I had a c-section 6 months ago, mine is also tingly to touch. But I have experienced some problems with mine. The forst few weeks of having it my scar and everything appeared to be fine and healing properly. Since then my scar continuously hurts on the inside of my stomach and gives me problems, It is how-ever still numb but the doctor told me that everyone is different and I may get the feeling back, but I may never not.. It has alot more feeling to it now then after me having my son.

I had a c-section just over a month ago, and it is very numb and tingly feeling. My doctor said, like everyone else has posted, that it would take up to a year, maybe a little longer for the feeling to come back. She said that after a year or fourteen months, whatever feeling I have is what I will have...

my mum had a section 13 years ago and she says she still hasn't got the feeling back. My baby was delivered by C Section 10 month ago and it still feels bonkers that when i touch my lower stomach, i cannot feel anythin. It's because they have cut through our nerves and so Im told the feeling may never come back. Hope I helped x

I have had 2 c-sections now, the most recent was almost 2 years agos. I can feel everything below the incision, but I can not feel anything, not even a tingling, 4" above the incision. I have feeling a little under my belly button and everywhere else, but that little 4" tall area there is nothing. It's been this way since the second c-section. Sorry.

I had a c/s five years ago and I can't remember exactly when I got back to normal but my stomach feels like it did before I ever got pregnant now. It all went away for me and I have complete feeling.

I think that you'll have to wait until at least 6 months. Perhaps some nerves got a bit damaged during the cut, but nothing to worry about. If it continues after that time or gets worse, maybe you can just consult your gynae. Hope this helps.

I had a c-section 9 months ago and I actually just started getting a little feeling back in it. The left side used to be horrible about being numb and painful when touched, but it has gotten better, so there is hope!

I had my first c/s nearly 11 years ago and sorry to say I never fully regained feeling in some areas around the scar. I guess everyone heals differently and at different rates, and in my case it must have just been too broken to heal totally. In saying that I had my second c/s 2.5 months ago. I haven't noticed much difference in the amount of numbness this time around.

i now have a 14 mo old baby...and i STILL have some numbness at my incision site...i think thats normal...the nerves are severed during the surgery and i assume it takes time for them to reconnect.

I had one 7 weeks ago, same thing its numb. My incision came open and they used a salted gauze to pull the infection out, warned me it might sting and then asked if I was ok. When I said I felt nothing the nurse told me sometimes they cut nerve endings and that over time they usually regenerate. It was a blessing in disguise with the homecare nurses using different things to help it heal... salt would stung bad....

I think your right. You get tissue damage from the cut and it  never heals 100%. The more c-secs you have the worse it gets. Atleast in my case.

Hi Kayla you prob wont get that feeling back as I have the same sensation after c-section Aug last year and I had another c-section Sept 09 still no feeling, my midwife has the sAME after hers 8 years ago. I have 3 kids, all delivered by c-sec. and they are five years apart. My youngest is 2 months. My incision always felt weird from the first. Sometimes when it's cold it will hurt, burn, tingle, and just make you feel uncomfortable. I hate for mine to even be touched. Not to sound gross or too graphic, but when i shave by there, I clinch my teeth till it's done. It feels horrible. Someone told me to get this special lotion for scars and it's suppose to help. I forget the name of it but when i get it I will find you and let you know.

I had one 10 months ago and its perfectly fine. Came right around 6 months or so. I think everybody's body heals at a different rate, so just hang in there, it will come right.
