Hello Mummies!!

I have a Summer TV Monitor. It cost me £80 but it is so worth it. We had Thomas in our room in his moses basket until he was 6 weeks. When he napped during the day we would put his moses basket in a rocking crib (we started this from the moment we got him home). We then started putting him straight into the rocking crib so he got used to the bars. Then when we decided to put him in his cot in his own room we put the moses basket in there for 2 nights and then just put him straight in the cot. The most important thing is to make sure you put baby to bed when he/she is dozy rather than asleep. This way they know where they are and are not alarmed when they wake up.

Anyway, back to the TV monitor. My son is just getting over a cold. It got really bad last Monday and i was laying in bed and heard him cough through the TV. Luckily i looked at the monitor (it sounded like he had just coughed and gone straight back to sleep) and found him choking! I flew out of bed and ran into his room to find him unable to breathe. I am so glad i got the TV monitor instead of just a hearing one because if i just had the hearing one i would have thought he'd coughed and gone back to sleep. I wouldn't have thought anything of it and who knows where i would be at now! I can't recommend the TV monitor enough, it has paid for itself 10 times over just from that one incident last Monday! xx

Quoting Vanessa:

Do you know about the Angel Care baby monitors? I have one and it's great. There is the normal sound part of the monitor and then it has a sensor that goes under the mattress. If the baby stops breathing for 20 sec then an alarm goes off to let you know. There are different settings for it but you can have it tic with every breath she takes if that makes you feel better. This monitor makes me feel so much better when she's in the other room but the only time it's actually gone off is when I forget to turn it off and pick her up. The monitor thinks she's stopped breathing and the alarm sounds!

I have the same monitor and I love it.  It made me feel so much better when I moved my son to his own room.  The only downfall is the older they get and can move around more, they might set off the alarm when they are fine because they moved too far off of it.  My friend had this problem. But I always say I would rather get up to an alarm and have nothing wrong,.

I know exactly what you mean. I have slept beside my sons crib in his room I could not leave him alone or I would get no sleep at all, my advice is to take everything slow. Do it at your own pace it is you who have to be comfortable with it and every situation is differant I had people telling me just to put him down and walk away and go to bed they were judgmental about it saying I was too paranoid but I think its just some of us moms just get anziety about there baby being so far away even if there just in the next room after all we carried them for 9 months right? I have the Angel Care baby monitor which is a major safety helper it alarms you if it doesnt sense a heart beat, and I can not stress enough to do it at your own speed.

As soon as my daughter came home we put her straight into the cot, but it was in our room. We have just bought a house and will be moving in in a couple of weeks, we plan to put her in her own room.

my daughter went into her cot at about 3 months, but this was mainly because I had started putting her in there for days naps only, but slowly I noticed she just slept better in her cot and she was even happy to be in there when she woke up for a while, she just got worse in her crib ( I think in the uk we call a crib a smaller cot, which I think in the us a crib is a big cot (right ?) but anyway so in the end i decided she would be better in her cot of a night as well and so she went into her own room early, it was weird and i still check n her quite a bit, but she's happier and it's not as scary as I thought ( we are right next door and I leave both doors open). my point is you may want to start day naps in her cot so she gets used to it and so do you.

before i put my son into his cot i put his basket in his cot when he was napping during the day this gave both me and him chance to get used to it. i stillchecked on him loads but i think it made the change easier. plus it got him used to the bars around him so he settled into his cot easily. hope this helps

I was terrified the first time I put my daughter into her crib in her nursery alone for the first night!! I went to check on her a few times an hour for the first few nights! Your daughter will be fine though!! Don't worry yourself sick! One day, you will look back on how worried you were and laugh! I do! But then again, I still go in and check on my daughter every once in a while so I guess we never get completely past it!! Good luck!! You and your daughter will do fine through the transition!
