Has anyone ever been told by their doctor that they have suppressed ovaries?

As you already know, that my husband and I are trying to conceive baby#2 :-) But there's a road block... It has been over a month now and I haven't had my period. I took a at-home pregnancy test a couple of days ago and it was negative. I had a appointment at the clinic yesterday. The doctor told me that my ovaries are suppressed. He said that they're suppressed from me breastfeeding my son for a year and birth control combined. His claim is that my ovaries aren't producing any eggs. But I had a period in July and August. They both lasted for a week. He called that spotting. I didn't know a full flow of blood was counted as spotting too. I thought spotting was a little blood here and there. Which wasn't what I was experiencing at all. I guess that's his explanation for as to why I have no period and why I'm not pregnant yet. He went on to say it could take me months to get pregnant. The clinic's lab did do some blood work on me. The tests were a pregnancy test and a test for anemia. I got my results today: Negative pregnancy test and no anemia. Can anyone make sense of this? Has anyone else ever been told the same thing about their ovaries? If so, how long did it take for you to get pregnant?
