What type of chemicals & allergies does your child have?

Hi! My name is Lori. I started having problems breathing last year, went to the doctor & found out my oxygen intake was low 80's during the day & even lower while sleeping.

So, far I have found these to be the trigger points for me: stress (not always easy to avoid), dust, chemicals in my cleaning products, smoke from fires (just found this one out), and even when it is too hot outside.

I am reducing my stress where I can, my son now does the dusting, I am switching my cleaning products, no longer visit my family in So. NV in the summer. I found out a lot about the chemicals in our cleaning products that we aren't even aware of. If you can get ahold of a copy of "Toxic Brew" (video) I highly recommend it. I am now using products from a Wellness Company & doing so much better...no more Advair & only use my Albuterol a couple times a month. Except since this week, we had a fire not too far from here & it has been really smokey in our little town.

Have a great day,

Lori Andersen

Thank you Lorie for replying & sharing! I only came online to look something up real quick and I am still here. I am getting sleepy, so I will come on here again tomorrow & will definately check on the resources you provided, like that book! :) Yes, I am finding things that trigger my problems, I also suffer from migraine headaches & am hypoglycemic (as well as my son...thank goodness he doesn't have my allergies or respitory problems!) So a balance in diet is HUGE in our home!

HI Justina! Thank you for sharing about your husband. I am sorry to hear about his medical problems. I know how hard it is when they are trying to find out what is wrong & you can't get the "right" stuff to help. I hope they find out soon. I will keep you & your husband in my thoughts & prayers.

Hey Lori! Welcome to our lil group! Thanks for joining us and I hope we can create a safe forum to support and advocate for our children's health issues.

First of all, my daughter is an ever changing, looking for a needle in the hay stack 4 ALL her triggers! So far, we know w/o a doubt she gets sick in varying degrees depending on the amount of exposure to: artificial colors/flavors/preservatives (which are mostly carcinogens & NONE of us should really eat them), snythetically scented products (air freshners, perfume, cleaning products, etc) As well as diesel fumes, bleach, VOC's (especially in paint/adheisives). She also has digestive issues w/ wheat gluten, nitrates, and ?????? still finding out all the time LOL.

Essentially, I have had 2 covert my home to organic/green certified products, including but not limited to; food, HBA stuff, cleaning products, paint, etc. Limiting her exposure to more toxins, coupled with an organic diet and a good detox mtn. program, and she can finally function like a normal, active child! :-))))

As far as the issues u mentioned, yea...I LOVE when doctors tell u to "avoid stress" LOL gee, why didn't I think of that?!! However, stress mgmt in whatever form works 4 u is a must, even if only 15 mins a day...it can really reboot your immune system! Can be as simple as 15 mins of silence, a walk in the woods, meditation, yoga, etc.

It sounds like your on the right track by switching cleaning products!! If you are referring to the Melaleuca/RM Barry video, I have seen it & highly recommend you share that info w/your friends, family, and especially your local school!! However, when it comes it Mela products...BE VERY CAREFUL!! Read ALL the labels and truly educate yourself on their ingredients and philosophy. I do use a few of their products, however, they are NOT GREEN CERT or even close to organic standards!!! Many of them have synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, etc...even the children's product line is full of toxic stuff! I guess you need to evaluate it on a product by product basis, and what works best for you and your family!

Personally, because of my daughter's health issues, and for the sake of my animals, we use a steam cleaner with hydrogen peroxide for just about everything! No chemicals. No residue. Totally safe and disinfected!! And, the best part is how cheap peroxide is! :-)))

I hope some of this helps you. Please feel free to post again. You never know who it may help down the line & I will do my best to answer them all.

In the meantime I would also recommend a wonderful book by Athena Thompson called "Homes that Heal, and those that don't"!! OMG!! It took me a while 2 really wrap my mind around all the info and resources she provides!! More than I ever wanted to know, but now that I do...l feel compelled to share her wonderful resource! It is very well researched and she provides lots of links and organizations to support and assist you too!

I will update soon with a reference section fyi.

Thanks again! Take care & be well!!

Hi Lori, my name is Justina. My husband is having a terrible time with his digestive system right now. He's had problems off and on for as long as he can remember. Last year he started to have severe allergic reactions to certain foods like bread and breaded foods. Went to an allergist but tests showed no allergy to gluten or wheat products. He lost 75 pounds in a year from it. Recently he hasn't been able to hardly eat anything without a reaction. He now has extreme fatigue, leg cramps, intestinal bloating to mention a few.

We're waiting now for Doc to call with blood results and sonogram results. He mentioned celiacs disease, and hopefully we'll soon find out.

Glad you're doing better. I can only hope we find out soon what's going on with my husband, so we can start a better treatment plan. I fear he'll be in the hospital soon because he getting little to no food in him.

Justina
