I know very little about Elimination Communication... but I'm curious. What do you ladies think about it? Is there a good book I should pick up?

I absolutely love EC!! We started when our son was 5 days old and now he is almost 8 weeks and is doing well with it. I started when our daughter was 11 months old it took a little longer but she got poops right away. She is now almost 5 years old. If we have another baby I a doing this again at the beginning!

There is a group on here as well for EC although there are only about 9 or 11 members right now. There is a good link there though....parttimediaperfree.com i think..I ddin't buy any books, just did alot of online reading..there are a thousand sites that tell you all the basics and joining a community with others helps with anything else.

In regards to the other member's question..from everything I had read it is never too late to start EC. Strange that that site said so. All it takes is you recognizing the signs adn then starting a connection to your cue. Check out the EC group on here!!

From what I understand it's no longer considered EC at my daughter's age (14 months) but we've been pottying her since 6 months. It just came natural to us with her. So I plan on trying it when we have our next child. I visit the site and get email updates from them.

i didn't realize the website said anything about being too old. i suppose it may be considered more along the lines of traditional potty training when children are a bit older, but from my understanding ec is about communication between parent and child in regard to pottying. but whatever it's considered, if you sense that your daughter is ready to use the potty, then just give it a try.

my mother thought my husband and i were crazy to start with our son, but i figure that if it saves a few diapers a day and it introduces him to knowing when he needs to use the potty then it's worth the time and effort (and it really isn't that much time or effort in the end!). we don't do it full time, but i figure that it is making the road to pottying independently a lot smoother, albeit longer.

in terms of getting started, i found that providing potty opportunities at regular times during the day seemed to work best. first thing in the morning and right after naps are usually good times. as is just before bed, just after meals, and whenever i'm changing our son's diaper. hope that helps! have fun! :)

i checked the site as soon as you posted it, and they said 12mths and over can be too old, but even if i can occasionally or part time, that would be great. i'll check out that yahoo group too though. lol, i really wish i hadve found about EC when bub was littler :-p

btw, as i read on a babywearing site, a master is anyone who knows more than you, you know about something i dont, thus youre a master! ^_^

Lalla, I am by no means an EC expert especially since we only practice EC on a part time basis. But I wondered the same thing when our son was 9 months old (actually, I thought he was an early starter for potty training until I found out about EC!). I would recommend looking at the website posted earlier. Also, there is a yahoo group called IPTLateStarters which would probably give you access to more experienced moms in EC. Have fun! :)

That website is really great. I think we might start with occasional and see how it goes.

i've found a good website: http://www.diaperfreebaby.org there are also a couple of books by laurie roucke called "infant potty training" and "infant potty training basics". the latter is a more concise version of the former.
